  1. 1. Osteoporosis in SLE

    Author : Katarina Almehed; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : osteoporosis; systemic lupus erythematosus; bone mineral density; health-related quality of life; SF-36; resistin; cross sectional study; vertebral fracture;

    Abstract : As the treatment of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) has become more effective the focus has partly shifted from main concern of short term morbidity and survival to long term complications such as osteoporosis. The aims of this thesis were to a) determine prevalence and risk factors of osteoporosis and of b) vertebral fractures c) evaluate if adequate osteoporotic treatment was provided d) determine if resistin, an adipokine with proposed pro-inflammatory properties, was associated with markers of inflammation or bone mineral density (BMD) and to e) investigate patients self reported health related quality of life (HRQOL) and its relationship to disease variables and employment status in female SLE patients. 2. 2. The activation and regulation of plasmacytoid dendritic cells in SLE : and possible therapeutic interventions

    Author : Karin Hjorton; Lars Rönnblom; Maija-Leena Eloranta; Hans Carlsten; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; SLE; pDCs; NK cells; interferon; autoantibodies; immune complex; hydroxychloroquine; IRAK4 inhibition;

    Abstract : Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease, characterized by the presence of anti-nuclear antibodies and the formation of nucleic acid containing immune complexes (ICs), which can cause organ damage by deposition in tissues. ICs strongly trigger the plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs) to produce interferon (IFN)-α, which potently activates the immune system. READ MORE

  3. 3. Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, with focus on vascular wall changes, cardiac risk-factor awareness and cardiovascular events

    Author : Christine Bengtsson; Reumatologi och molekylär skelettbiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; microvascular reactivity; arteria stiffness; cardiac risk factors; Cardiovascular event; SLE;

    Abstract : Systemic Lupus Erythematosus is an autoimmune disease with a wide range of disease manifestations with respect to severity and magnitude of organ involvement. An increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) compared with the general population causes both morbidity and mortality in SLE patients. READ MORE

  4. 4. Self-reported pain in SLE

    Author : Eva Waldheim; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune, rheumatic disease, potentially affecting most organ systems. The disease is commonly considered to be chronic and occurs in often unpredictable flares, with alternating low and high disease activity. READ MORE

  5. 5. Purine synthesis inhibition in experimental lupus

    Author : Charlotte A Jonsson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SLE; Mycophenolate mofetil; MRLlpr lpr mice; cytokine; autoantibody;

    Abstract : Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease that mainly affects women. The effect of the immune modulating drug mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) on experimental SLE was investigated. READ MORE
