  1. 1. Sliding stability re-assessment of concrete dams with bonded concrete-rock interfaces

    Author : Alexandra Krounis; Stefan Larsson; Fredrik Johansson; Ignacio Escuder Bueno; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; concrete dams; sliding stability; cohesion; shear strength; uncertainty; bond; Byggvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Abstract : The shear strength of the concrete-rock interface is an important parameter in sliding stability analyses of concrete dams founded on rock and depends, in addition to the normal stress state, on the bonding conditions of the interface; concrete-rock interfaces can be either unbonded, partially bonded or fully bonded.In the Swedish guidelines for dam safety all dam-foundation contacts are treated as unbonded. 2. 2. Reliability-based Assessment of Concrete Dam Stability

    Author : Marie Westberg; Avdelningen för Konstruktionsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; assessment; stability; concrete dam; structural reliability analysis; probability; uplift; system reliability;

    Abstract : Risk management is increasingly used in dam safety and includes risk analysis, risk evaluation and risk reduction. Structural Reliability Analysis (SRA) is a probabilistic methodology that may be used in the risk assessment process. READ MORE

  3. 3. Piecewise Linear Control Systems

    Author : Mikael Johansson; Institutionen för reglerteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Piecewise quadratic functions; Linear matrix inequalities; Convex optimization; Optimal control; Performance analysis; Piecewise linear Lyapunov functions; Piecewise quadratic Lyapunov functions; Quadratic stability; Lyapunov stability; Piecewise linear systems; Nonlinear systems; Fuzzy systems; Hybrid systems.; Automation; robotics; control engineering; Automatiska system; robotteknik; reglerteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis treats analysis and design of piecewise linear control systems. Piecewise linear systems capture many of the most common nonlinearities in engineering systems, and they can also be used for approximation of other nonlinear systems. READ MORE

  4. 4. Some Aspects of Wear and Structural Dynamics

    Author : Jakob Knudsen; Hållfasthetslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; vibration and acoustic engineering; Mechanical engineering; hydraulics; chaos; interfacial breakdown; stability; Maskinteknik; hydraulik; vakuumteknik; vibrationer; akustik; vacuum technology; fretting wear; fretting map; vibro-impact dynamics;

    Abstract : The topic of this thesis is dynamics and wear of structures. In the six appended papers different aspects of wear and dynamics of a model system are studied. The considered system consists of a long slender rod with unilateral supports, subject to harmonic and stochastic excitation. READ MORE

  5. 5. Analysis and Design of Hybrid Control Systems

    Author : Jörgen Malmborg; Institutionen för reglerteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Lyapunov theory; Mode switching; Multi-controllers; PID control; Simulation; Higher order sliding; Hybrid control; Sliding modes; Automation; robotics; control engineering; Automatiska system; robotteknik; reglerteknik;

    Abstract : Different aspects of hybrid control systems are treated: analysis, simulation, design and implementation. A systematic methodology using extended Lyapunov theory for design of hybrid systems is developed. The methodology is based on conventional control designs in separate regions together with a switching strategy. READ MORE
