  1. 1. Slippery paths : The performance and canonization of Turkic literature and Uyghur muqam song in Islam and modernity

    Author : Nathan Light; USA IN Indiana University; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Folklore; Song; Islam; Muqam; Modernity; Language; literature and linguistics; Social sciences; Turkic; Canonization; Middle Eastern literature; Uyghur; Performance; China; Asian literature; Turkic languages; Turkiska språk; Literature; Litteraturvetenskap; Religionshistoria; History of Religions;

    Abstract : In the past forty years the fluid Uyghur muqam song tradition has been transformed into a cultural canon used to represent the Uyghur ethnic group within China and on the world stage. Traditional muqam performers have provided the magma of songs that scholars and politicians have edited into an invented "great tradition" which supports a Uyghur claim to an important piece world cultural history. 2. 2. Ice free roads using hydronic heating pavement with low temperature: Thermal properties of asphalt concretes and numerical simulations

    Author : Raheb Mirzanamadi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; thermal properties; slippery condition; hydronic heating pavement; energy harvesting; asphalt concrete; road; anti-icing; finite element method;

    Abstract : A traditional method to mitigate the slippery conditions of a road is to spread out salt and sand on the road surface. However, salting causes corrosion on the road infrastructures, damage to surrounding vegetation and salification of fresh water. Hence, there is a need for alternative solutions to mitigate the slippery conditions. READ MORE

  3. 3. Utilizing solar energy for anti-icing road surfaces using hydronic heating pavement with low temperature

    Author : Raheb Mirzanamadi; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; solar energy; asphalt concrete; ground heat exchanger; anti-icing; optimization;

    Abstract : During summer, the surface temperature of an asphalt road pavement can rise up to 70°C due to absorbed solar radiation. The high temperature degrades the performance of the asphalt concrete by accelerating the thermal oxidation and plastic deformation, especially under heavy traffic loads. READ MORE

  4. 4. Dynamic speed adaptation based on information technology - a theoretical background

    Author : Andras Varhelyi; Trafik och väg; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Teknik; Technological sciences; driver acceptance; appropriate speeds; speed behaviour; critical conditions; Social sciences; Samhällsvetenskaper;

    Abstract : Knowledge on the factors influencing driver speed-behaviour, the relationship between speed and traffic safety and means to influence speed behaviour is systematised. Expert judgements and the high proportion of injury accidents show that improved speed adaptation has the largest safety potential in the following situations: - Road surface-, visibility and weather affected situations (e. 5. 5. Winter Road Conditions and Traffic Accidents in Sweden and UK - Present and Future Climate Scenarios

    Author : Anna K Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Winter road condition; Slipperiness; Traffic accident; Winter road maintenance; Climate change;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the distribution of slippery roads in Sweden and the UK for the present climate and how this may be affected by climate change for the rest of the century. It also addresses future scenarios for traffic accidents and winter road maintenance. READ MORE
