11. Characterisation and Some Statistical Aspects of Univariate and Multivariate Generalised Pareto Distributions
Abstract : Extreme value theory is about the distributions of very large or very small values in a time series or stochastic process. This has numerous applications connected with environmental science, civil engineering, materials science and insurance. READ MORE

12. Development of a geometallurgical testing framework for ore grinding and liberation properties
Abstract : Efficient measurement methods for comminution properties are an important prerequisite for testing the variability of an ore deposit within the geometallurgical context. This involves the investigation of effects of mineralogy and mineral texture on the breakage of mineral particles. READ MORE

13. Deriving landscape metrics from sample data
Abstract : This thesis focuses on the efficiency of using sampling methods to derive landscape metrics. It also explores what sampling methods are to be preferred for different metrics and how metrics in some cases can be redefined to better suit a sample-based data collection framework. READ MORE

14. Sample preparation effect on measured rheological properties of bitumen using Dynamic Shear Rheometer
Abstract : Through improved bitumen characterization, which will increase the road'sdurability, stability, and performance, pavement engineering can apply thesustainability notion that should be followed in all disciplines nowadays. The newtechniques distinguish between the rheological properties of bituminous binders as a function of loading time and temperature to depict real-world behavior rather than only considering empirical properties. 15. Aspects of analysis of small-sample right censored data using generalized Wilcoxon rank tests
Abstract : The estimated bias and variance of commonly applied and jackknife variance estimators and observed significance level and power of standardised generalized Wilcoxon linear rank sum test statistics and tests, respectively, of Gehan and Prentice are compared in a Monte Carlo simulation study. The variance estimators are the permutational-, the conditional permutational- and the jackknife variance estimators of the test statistic of Gehan, and the asymptotic- and the jackknife variance estimators of the test statistic of Prentice.
