11. Decentring Criminal Law : Understandings of Justice by Victim-Survivors of Sexual Violence and their Implications for Different Justice Strategies
Abstract : The compilation dissertation is shaped by the ambition of Critical Theory, which is to imagine an alternative and emancipatory political reality to the status quo, where people who have been subjected to sexual violence are recognised and enjoy parity of participation in social life. More specifically, it aims to understand how victim-survivors of sexual violence in Iceland perceive, experience, and understand justice; and how, in a Nordic socio-legal context, this knowledge can be used to expand and develop strategies which are capable of meeting the justice interests of victim-survivors within and outside of the criminal justice system. Abstract : This thesis investigates the discursive construction of ethical consumerism – a notion that encompasses both ‘conscious’ consumption choices and responsible’ corporate activities – in mediated discourses about fashion and clothing consumption in Sweden. Drawing on the discourse-historical approach within critical discourse analysis, the study provides an empirical examination of discursive elements in corporate communications, newspapers, and social media, which construct the market as the best solution to social injustice and climate change. 15. Violence, power, and justice : A feminist contribution to Christian sexual ethics
Abstract : This study discusses how male battering of women can be understood through due attention to contemporary psychological and sociological interpretations and concludes that a critical feminist perspective offers the most adequate explanation of the problem. Feminist theories on the function of male violence in patriarchal societies coupled with theories on power and the social construction of sexuality as well as feminist theories about the institution of heterosexual marriage are then discussed; the result is a serious critique of marriage as an institution which is not safe with regard to women, reproducing and reaffirming as it does the patriarchal power relations of the sexes.
