  1. 1. Interacting particle systems for opinion dynamics: the Deffuant model and some generalizations

    University dissertation from Göteborg : Chalmers University of Technology

    Author : Timo Hirscher; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2016]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Deffuant model; bounded confidence; opinion dynamics; sociophysics; consensus formation; general opinion space; percolation; pumpless water transport.;

    Abstract : In the field of sociophysics, concepts and techniques taken from statistical physics are used to model and investigate some social and political behavior of a large group of humans: their social network is given by a simple graph and neighboring individuals meet and interact in pairs or small groups. Although most of the established models feature rather simple microscopic interaction rules, the macroscopic long-time behavior of the collective often eludes an analytical treatment due to the complexity, which stems from the interaction of the large system as a whole. 2. 2. Consensus formation in the Deffuant model

    University dissertation from Göteborg : Chalmers University of Technology

    Author : Timo Hirscher; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2014]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Deffuant model; consensus formation; opinion dynamics; sociophysics; vector-valued opinions; percolation;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with a mathematical model used in the context of social interactionin large groups, introduced by Deffuant et al. in 2000. Each individualholds an opinion and shares it with others in random pairwise encounters. READ MORE

  3. 3. Modeling Organizational Dynamics Distributions, Networks, Sequences and Mechanisms

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Department of Sociology, Stockholm University

    Author : Hernan Mondani; Fredrik Liljeros; Rickard Sandell; [2017]
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; organizational dynamics; social organizing; organizational change; modeling; organizational growth; process stability; labor flow network; employment trajectories; heavy-tailed distributions; complex network analysis; sequence analysis; agent-based modeling; sociophysics; Sociology; sociologi;

    Abstract : The study of how social organizations work, change and develop is central to sociology and to our understanding of the social world and its transformations. At the same time, the underlying principles of organizational dynamics are extremely difficult to investigate. READ MORE
