  1. 1. Establishing the molecular mechanism of sodium/proton exchangers

    Author : Povilas Uzdavinys; David Drew; Peter Brzezinski; M.D. Daniel Fuster; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; membrane protein; secondary active transporters; sodium proton exchangers; proton transport; structure; energetics; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Sodium/proton exchangers are ubiquitous secondary active transporters that can be found in all kingdoms of life. These proteins facilitate the transport of protons in exchange for sodium ions to help regulate internal pH, sodium levels, and cell volume. READ MORE

  2. 2. Structure, Mechanism, and Regulation of Sodium/Proton Exchangers

    Author : Iven Winkelmann; Drew David; Rajini Rao; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; sodium proton exchange; SLC9; structure; secondary active transport; membrane protein; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Sodium/proton exchangers (NHEs) are secondary active transporters that are ubiquitously found in all kingdoms of life. They facilitate the exchange of protons for sodium ions or other inorganic ions across biological membranes, regulating pH, sodium levels, and osmotic pressure. READ MORE

  3. 3. Elucidating the molecular basis of Na+/H+ exchange

    Author : Pascal F. Meier; David Drew; Simon Newstead; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; membrane protein; secondary-active transporter; Solute Carrier Transporter; ion-exchange; sodium proton exchanger; potassium proton exchanger; protein structure; cryo-EM; regulation; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Abstract : Solute carrier (SLC) transporters are membrane transport proteins, which catalyse the movement of nutrients, ions, and drugs across cell membranes. Here, I will present our contribution to understanding the mechanism of the sodium/proton exchangers (NHE), belonging to the SLC9 family of membrane transporters. READ MORE

  4. 4. Nuclear magnetic resonance studies on bentonite in complex mixed systems

    Author : Alexander S. Goryan; Willis Forsling; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bentonite; montmorillonite; 23Na; 31P; 29Si NMR; interaction; ion exchange; sorption; Chemistry of Interfaces; Gränsytors kemi;

    Abstract : In this work 23Na MAS NMR was validated as a successful quantitative method for studies of exchanging sodium in bentonites useful, in particular, for studies of ion-exchange kinetics. Na-enriched bentonites equilibrated in a re-circulated process water at iron-oxide pelletizing plants may acquire properties of Ca-bentonites after already 20 minutes of the equilibration time, since >50 % of sodium ions will be exchanged by calcium ions during first minutes of bentonite placed in contact with the process water. 5. 5. Structure and Biogenesis of Membrane Proteins

    Author : Mama Ndi; Martin Ott; Alexander Kastaniotis; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cbp3; cytochrome b; respiratory complex III; alternative translation initiation and sodium proton exchange; Biochemistry; biokemi;

    Abstract : Membrane proteins make up about one-third of the cellular proteome. The diverse roles that membrane proteins have in cells include major life-sustaining processes, making them major drug targets. READ MORE
