1. The hypertension-prone man: A study on the pathogenesis of hypertension with regard to insulin sensitivity
Abstract : Hypertensive individuals, even non-obese, have been shown to be resistant to the insulin-mediated glucose uptake in peripheral tissues {mainly skeletal muscle}. The aim of this study was to investigate hypothetical pathophysiological mechanisms for the development of hypertension with regard to insulin sensitivity in normotensive men with a family history of hypertension (RELs) as compared to men with no such family history (CONs). 2. Inhibition of Calcium and Zinc Absorption by Phytate in Man Methodological Studies and Hydrothermal Processing of Cereals to Improve Absorption
Abstract : A mathematical model based on measurements in a whole-body counter described the retention of calcium in the human body. It was shown that the relative retention of intravenous and orally administered 47Ca in all subjects (n = 10 - 11) were well described by fitting a simple function of time with two free parameters to a few whole-body measurements after day 6, when the unabsorbed calcium had been excreted. 3. Modifying kraft pulping to produce a softwood pulp requiring less energy in tissue paper production
Abstract : Modification of softwood kraft pulp by the addition of either polysulfide (PS) or sodium borohydride (NaBH4) has been shown to increase the pulp yield due to a higher retention of glucomannan. The pulps with higher yield gave a paper with higher tensile index than reference pulp, especially at lower degrees of refining. READ MORE

4. Oxidation of terpenes in indoor environments : A study of influencing factors
Abstract : In this thesis the oxidation of monoterpenes by O3 and NO2 and factors that influenced the oxidation were studied. In the environment both ozone (O3) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2) are present as oxidising gases, which causes sampling artefacts when using Tenax TA as an adsorbent to sample organic compounds in the air. 5. Hydro-mechanical properties of a water unsaturated sodium bentonite. Laboratory study and theoretical interpretation
Abstract : Highly compacted bentonite has been proposed as the buffer material in the Swedish concept for the disposal of nuclear waste. To increase the knowledge of the hydro-mechanical behaviour of unsaturated swelling bentonite a series of laboratory experiments was carried out. READ MORE
