  1. 1. Efficient real-time visibility testing

    Author : Erik Sintorn; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; soft shadows; volumetric shadows; deep shadow-maps; order-independent transparency; hair; shadows; rendering; visibility;

    Abstract : Visibility testing is an integral part of many computer graphics algorithms. For example, algorithms that generate images with shadows, ambient occlusion, environment lighting or transparency all require an efficient means of establishing the visibility between two or more points in a virtual scene. 2. 2. Improving Soft Real-time Performance of Fog Computing

    Author : Vaclav Struhar; Moris Behnam; Seyed Mohammad Hossein Ashjaei; Alessandro Papadopoulos; Silviu Craciunas; Ivona Brandic; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fog computing; real-time systems; cloud; virtualization; Computer Science; datavetenskap;

    Abstract : Fog computing is a distributed computing paradigm that brings data processing from remote cloud data centers into the vicinity of the edge of the network. The computation is performed closer to the source of the data, and thus it decreases the time unpredictability of cloud computing that stems from (i) the computation in shared multi-tenant remote data centers, and (ii) long distance data transfers between the source of the data and the data centers. 3. 3. Architectures and Protocols for Performance Improvements of Real-Time Networks

    Author : Kristina Kunert; Magnus Jonsson; Elisabeth Uhlemann; Eduardo Tovar; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Real-time communication; predictable deadline guarantees; real-time scheduling analysis; timing analysis; admission control; deterministic medium access; MAC; Quality of Service parameters; reliability; redundancy; retransmission scheme; ARQ; truncated ARQ; Automatic Repeat Request; wireless networks; IEEE 802.11; IEEE 802.15.4; fibre-optic networks; AWG; multichannel networks; industrial communications; embedded systems; Computer engineering; Datorteknik;

    Abstract : When designing architectures and protocols for data traffic requiring real-time services, one of the major design goals is to guarantee that traffic deadlines can be met. However, many real-time applications also have additional requirements such as high throughput, high reliability, or energy efficiency. READ MORE

  4. 4. Fibre-Optic AWG Networks Supporting Real-Time Communication in High-Performance Embedded Systems

    Author : Kristina Kunert; Magnus Jonsson; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; real-time communication; medium access control MAC protocol; traffic dependency analysis; network architecture; Arrayed Waveguide Grating AWG ; optical communication; real-time analysis; optical network; Computer engineering;

    Abstract : High-performance embedded systems communicating heterogeneous traffic with high bandwidth and strict timing requirements are in need of more efficient communication solutions. This thesis proposes two multi-wavelength passive optical networks able to meet these demands. READ MORE

  5. 5. Transport Services for Soft Real-Time Applications in IP Networks

    Author : Karl-Johan Grinnemo; Anna Brunström; Reiner Ludwig; Philippe Owezarski; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; transport protocol; congestion control; partial reliability; soft real-time; SCTP; failover; SIGTRAN; head-of-line blocking; Computer science; Datavetenskap; Datavetenskap; Computer Science;

    Abstract : In recent years, Internet and IP technologies have made inroads into almost every communication market ranging from best-effort services such as email and Web, to soft real-time applications such as VoIP, IPTV, and video. However, providing a transport service over IP that meets the timeliness and availability requirements of soft real-time applications has turned out to be a complex task. READ MORE
