  1. 1. Swash Processes and Dune Erosion: Emphasis on Vessel-Generated Waves

    Author : Li Erikson; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; marklära; kartografi; klimatologi; Civil engineering; hydraulic engineering; geomorfologi; Fysisk geografi; climatology; cartography; pedology; geomorphology; Naturvetenskap; Physical geography; Natural science; swash; erosion; vessel-generated waves; dunes; offshore technology; soil mechanics; Väg- och vattenbyggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : In navigable waterways, owing to the relatively short fetches for wind wave generation, the free waves generated by moving vessels often produce the dominant wave action with respect to erosion of the shore. In response to the fairly recent introduction of high-speed ferries, combined with a planned expansion within the passenger- and car-carrying ship market, the need to model and predict coastline changes as a result of exposure to vessel-generated waves has become a topic of increased research. 2. 2. Water erosion modeling using fractal rainfall disaggregation- a study in semiarid Tunisia

    Author : Sihem Jebari; Avdelningen för Teknisk vattenresurslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; reservoir siltation; regionalization; fractal analysis; Atlasic mountain range; erosive events; semiarid area; soil loss; Tunisia.; Soil erosion; semiarid; Tunisia; rainfall; fractal; diaggregation;

    Abstract : In the Tunisian semiarid area, water erosion processes have led to negative economic and environmental consequences in a context of limited water resources. To characterize and predict these degradation phenomena, a comprehensive high-resolution data base on erosive rainfall, together with siltation records for 28 small reservoirs were analyzed. 3. 3. Internal Erosion Phenomena in Embankment Dams : Throughflow and internal erosion mechanisms

    Author : Farzad Ferdos; Anders Wörman; Bijan Dargahi; Fredrik Johansson; Willi Hager; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Internal erosion modelling in porous material; Constitutive law of erosion for closure of continuum-mechanics-based balance equations for numerical modelling; High Reynolds-number turbulent flow; Flow laws; Coarse rockfill material throughflow; Computational Fluid Dynamics.; Civil and Architectural Engineering; Byggvetenskap;

    Abstract :  In this study, two major internal erosion initiation processes, suffusion and concentrated leak mechanisms, which lead to both defect formation in a dam’s body and its foundation and high throughflow in dams subjected to internal erosion were studied. This understanding has the potential to facilitate numerical modelling and expedite dam safety assessment studies. READ MORE

  4. 4. Hydrological and sediment yield modelling in Lake Tana Basin, Blue Nile Ethiopia

    Author : Shimelis Gebriye Setegn; Bijan Dargahi; Anders Wörman; C. Green Rossi; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SWAT; Lake Tana; Blue Nile; hydrological modelling; watershed modelling; MCE; SUFI-2; GLUE; ParaSol; streamflows; sediment yield; erosion; water balance; model calibration; Hydrology; Hydrologi;

    Abstract : Land and water resources degradation are the major problems on the Ethiopian highlands. Poor land use practices and improper management systems have played a significant role in causing high soil erosion rates, sediment transport and loss of agricultural nutrients. So far limited meas-ures have been taken to combat the problems. READ MORE

  5. 5. Risk assessment of erosion and losses of particulate phosphorus : a series of studies at laboratory, field and catchment scales

    Author : Ana Villa Solis; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Phosphorus (P) losses from agricultural land are considered a major contributor to eutrophication in many aquatic ecosystems. Areas more vulnerable to losses of P need to be identified in order to effectively apply mitigation measures aimed at reducing total loads of P. READ MORE
