  1. 1. Soil improvement based on environmental geotechnics : environmental and geotechnical aspects of drainage of redox-sensitive soils and stabilisation of soils with by-products

    Author : Josef Mácsik; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Abstract : I avhandlingen behandlas Miljögeotekniska problem som "dränering av redox-sensitiva jordar", "blockstabilisering av sulfidjord och torvjord" och " undersökning av nya vägmaterial". - Miljöproblem, kopplat till dränering och/eller urgrävning av redox-sensitiva jordar, som järnhaltiga moräner och sulfidjordar, behandlas i denna avhandling. 2. 2. Assessing Soil Functions for Sustainable Remediation of Contaminated Sites

    Author : Yevheniya Volchko; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; soil ecosystem services; Contaminated sites soil; minimum data set; remediation; sustainability assessment; soil quality indicators; soil functions;

    Abstract : Soil contamination is a worldwide problem. Soil remediation is often carried out to reduce the risks posed by contaminants in the soil to human health and environment. Contaminant concentration is typically the only soil quality aspect maintained in remediation projects. READ MORE

  3. 3. Compost and fertilizer - alternatives or complementary? : management feasibility and long-term effects on soil fertility in an Ethiopian village

    Author : Workneh Bedada Chala; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Decline in soil fertility due to nutrient depletion is a concern for low-input crop production in the highlands of Ethiopia. Fertilizer addition is insufficient due to infrastructural and socioeconomic constraints. READ MORE

  4. 4. Subsoil improvement for sustainable intensification : impact of loosening with straw incorporation or liming on subsoil properties, crop performance and water quality

    Author : Gizachew Tarekegn Getahun; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Subsoil has a high capacity for nutrient and water retention, but arable subsoil is often nutrient poor, carbon-deficient and compacted, affecting both root growth and yield. In field and lysimeter experiments, this thesis investigated the effects of subsoil loosening and loosening with cereal straw incorporation (24-60 Mg ha-1) (loosening + straw) on crop yield, soil properties (bulk density, penetration resistance, moisture characteristics) and leaching. 5. 5. Mechanical properties of excavated sulfur rich soil stabilized with cement - A laboratory and field experiment

    Author : Alaleh Ziagharib; Christian Maurice; Josef Macsik; Qi Jia; Jan Laue; Bo Vesterberg; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Sulfur-rich soil; Mixing; Sampling; Unconfined compressive strength; stabilization; Porosity; Water content; Consistency limits; Geoteknik; Soil Mechanics;

    Abstract : Sulfide soils are silty soils, often found in saturated conditions, under the groundwater level. Characteristics of these soils, including particle size distribution and consistency limits along with chemical composition and environmental properties, cause excavation to be necessary for construction purposes.
