  1. 1. Imprint of management on microbial communities in arable soil : implications for N2O emissions

    Author : Tina Putz; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Arable soils are a major source of the greenhouse gas nitrous oxide (N2O), emissions of which are directly linked to increased use of N fertilizers. Microbial communities that drive N cycle processes in soil ultimately determine the fate of reactive N inputs and control N2O emissions. READ MORE

  2. 2. Soil moisture conditions control nutrient accumulation, carbon storage and tree growth in boreal forest landscapes

    Author : Johannes Larson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Forest and soil properties change across landscapes due to the complex interactions between various environmental factors. In many landscapes, topography exerts a major influence on the variation in soil moisture conditions, which in turn largely affects soil properties and processes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Sources of pesticide losses to surface waters and groundwater at field and landscape scales

    Author : Anna Lindahl; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Pesticide residues in groundwater and surface waters may harm aquatic ecosystems and result in a deterioration of drinking water quality. EU legislation and policy emphasize risk management and risk reduction for pesticides to ensure long-term, sustainable use of water across Europe. READ MORE

  4. 4. Cryogenic soil processes in a changing climate

    Author : Marina Becher; Jonatan Klaminder; Johan Olofsson; Jan Karlsson; Niclas Börlin; Philip Wookey; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Non-sorted circle; Carbon storage; Soil motion; Terrestrial photogrammetry; Cryoturbation; Carbon fluxes; naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Abstract : A considerable part of the global pool of terrestrial carbon is stored in high latitude soils. In these soils, repeated cycles of freezing and thawing creates soil motion (cryoturbation) that in combination with other cryogenic disturbance processes may play a profound role in controlling the carbon balance of the arctic soil. 5. 5. Sediment Characteristics and Sedimentation Rate Estimation in the Dukan Reservoir

    Author : Rebwar Hassan; Nadhir Al-Ansari; Sven Knutsson; Salahalddin S. Ali; Fadhil Ahmed Ameen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Area-storage-capacity curves; Bathymetric survey; Dukan dam; Land use; Reservoir sedimentation; Sediment trap efficiency; SWAT; Soil Mechanics; Geoteknik;

    Abstract : The Dukan Reservoir has been created from the construction of the Dukan Dam on the Lesser Zab River where it crosses the Khalakan Thrust Sheet (Khalakan Mountains) through a gorge 65 km northwest of Sulaimani and 295 km northeast of Baghdad. The Dukan Dam is a multi-purpose dam which was built from 1954 to 1959 to control the flooding of the Lesser Zab River, and to provide irrigation, hydroelectricity, and water storage. READ MORE
