1. Phosphorus availability and microbial respiration across biomes : from plantation forest to tundra
Abstract : Phosphorus is the main limiting nutrient for plant growth in large areas of the world and the availability of phosphorus to plants and microbes can be strongly affected by soil properties. Even though the phosphorus cycle has been studied extensively, much remains unknown about the key processes governing phosphorus availability in different environments. READ MORE

2. Heat and water flows in freezing and thawing soils : numerical modelling, laboratory and field observations
Abstract : A laboratory study of infiltration rates into frozen and unfrozen fine sand, including temperature effects of both soil and infiltration water, is reported. The average infiltration rate varied from about 10.6 mm/min for unfrozen conditions, to about 1-2 mm/min for frozen conditions. READ MORE

3. Solid Waste Landfills in an Arid Environment : Site Selection and Design
Abstract : Selecting landfill sites is considered a complicated task because its whole process is based upon several factors and restrictions. This study shows the present status of solid waste management, sources, collection personnel, machinery and equipment that are involved in the waste collection process, financing and financial management for the major cities of the Babylon Governorate in Iraq (Al-Hillah, Al-Qasim, Al-Mahawil, Al-Hashimiyah and Al-Musayiab). 4. Soil erosion in Tanzanian mountain areas : case studies of land degradation and recovery in relation to land use and physical land characteristics in the Uluguru and Usambara mountains, Tanzania
Abstract : Thanks to favourable rainfall, soil and photosynthesis conditions, the highlands of Tanzania have a considerably higher potential for crop production than any other biogeographic region in the country. This has resulted in deforestation, high population densities, and overcultivation of the mountain slopes. READ MORE

5. Testing and modelling of silty and sulphide-rich soils
Abstract : Silt and sulphide soil are two types of soil which are dominating in northern Sweden, especially in the coast area of the Baltic sea. The stress-strain and strength characteristics of these two soils have so far not been as much explored as those for e.g. Scandinavian clays. READ MORE
