  1. 16. Atomic Scale Design of Clean Energy Materials : Efficient Solar Energy Conversion and Gas Sensing

    Author : Jawad Nisar; Rajeev Ahuja; Puru Jena; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Photocatalysts; Band gap narrowing; Water dissociation; Density functional theory; Gas sensing; Kaolinite; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : The focus of this doctoral thesis is the atomic level design of photocatalysts and gas sensing materials. The band gap narrowing in the metal oxides for the visible-light driven photocatalyst as well as the interaction of water and gas molecules on the reactive surfaces of metal oxides and the electronic structure of kaolinite has been studied by the state-of-art calculations. 4. 19. Energy Transfer and Conversion in the Magnetosphere-Ionosphere System

    Author : Lisa Rosenqvist; Stephan Buchert; Andris Vaivads; Mike Lockwood; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Space and plasma physics; solar system; space physics; magnetospheric physics; plasma physics; magnetic storms; substorms; boundary layers; magnetic reconnection; energy conversion; space weather; Rymd- och plasmafysik;

    Abstract : Magnetized planets, such as Earth, are strongly influenced by the solar wind. The Sun is very dynamic, releasing varying amounts of energy, resulting in a fluctuating energy and momentum exchange between the solar wind and planetary magnetospheres. READ MORE

  5. 20. Molecular Approaches to Photochemical Solar Energy Conversion : Towards Synthetic Catalysts for Water Oxidation and Proton Reduction

    Author : Gerriet Eilers; Reiner Lomoth; Leif Hammarström; Wolfgang Lubitz; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Physical chemistry; artificial photosynthesis; solar fuel; WOC; OEC; accumulative electron transfer; hydrogenase mimic; oxygen evolution; proton reduction; water oxidation; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : A molecular system capable of photoinduced water splitting is an attractive approach to solar energy conversion. This thesis deals with the functional characterization of molecular building blocks for the three principal functions of such a molecular system: Photoinduced accumulative charge separation, catalytic water oxidation, and catalytic proton reduction.
