  1. 1. Domestic Heating with Solar Thermal : Studies of Technology in a Social Context and Social Components in Technical Studies

    Author : Magdalena Lundh; Ewa Wäckelgård; Jan-Erik Nielsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; solar heating; solar energy; heating system; social components; market actors; interdisciplinary; heat storage; system solution; energy system; hot water; load profiles; socio-technical; Engineering physics; Teknisk fysik; teknisk fysik med inriktningen mikrosystemteknik; engineering science with specialization in microsystems technology;

    Abstract : Research in solar heating has traditionally focused solely on increasing the system efficiency by improving the technical components. In this thesis the technical methodology and system boundaries are widened to connect the technical aspects with market actors that are highly influential on the implementation of solar technology. 2. 2. Retrofitted Solar Domestic Hot Water System for Single-Family Electrically-Heated Houses: Development and testing

    Author : Ricardo Bernardo; Institutionen för arkitektur och byggd miljö; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Solar domestic hot water; retrofitting; single family electrically heated houses; high solar fraction; photovoltaic thermal concentrating hybrids; PVT; parabolic reflectors; CPC thermal collector.;

    Abstract : In Sweden, there are roughly half a million single family houses that use electric heating for both domestic hot water production and space heating. Since electricity is the most expensive energy source in Sweden, it is interesting to install a high solar fraction solar thermal system to reduce the energy use in these houses. READ MORE

  3. 3. Building Performance - Methods for Improved Prediction and Verification of Energy Use and Indoor Climate

    Author : Hans Bagge; Avdelningen för Byggnadsfysik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Energy Use; Residential buildings; Prediction; Verification; Measurements;

    Abstract : Reducing CO2 emissions is one of the most important goals in Europe as well as the rest of the world. To reach that goal, the use of energy must be reduced. Thus, the building industry is facing a great challenge. Not only energy efficiency but also sustainability is desirable in the building stock. READ MORE

  4. 4. Evaluation of new active technology for low-energy houses

    Author : Henrik Davidsson; Avdelningen för Energi och byggnadsdesign; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Low-quality heat; hybrid ventilation; heat recovery; active house; solar window; PV T hybrid; building integration; TRNSYS;

    Abstract : Using energy at low-quality levels opens up new possibilities for low-energy houses. Low-quality energy can be heat at a temperature that is close to that of its surrounding, and can be used, for example, to pre-heat ventilation air or domestic hot water. READ MORE

  5. 5. Evaluation of Modular Thermally Driven Heat Pump Systems

    Author : Corey Blackman; Eva Thorin; Chris Bales; Christian Schweigler; Mälardalens universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sorption heat pump; sorption module; thermochemical energy storage; artificial neural network; built environment; solar energy; gas-driven heat pump; solar cooling; heating and cooling; renewable energy; energy efficiency; experimental; simulation; analytical; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik; Reesbe företagsforskarskola;

    Abstract : The building sector accounts for approximately 40% of primary energy use within the European Union, therefore reductions in the energy use intensity of this sector are critical in decreasing total energy usage. Given that the majority of energy used within the built environment is for space conditioning and domestic hot water preparation, prudence would suggest that decreasing primary energy used for these end purposes would have the biggest overall environmental impact.
