  1. 1. Solar heat pump systems for heating applications : Analysis of system performance and possible solutions for improving system performance

    Author : Stefano Poppi; Per Lundqvist; Chris Bales; Kai Siren; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Solar heat pump systems; techno-economics; solar thermal; system improvements; cost-effectiveness; Energiteknik; Energy Technology; MacSheep;

    Abstract : Solar heat pump systems (SHPs) are systems that combine solar energy and heat pumps. SHPs have been investigated for several decades and have been proven to increase the share of renewable energy and reduce electric energy demand in residential heating applications. READ MORE

  2. 2. Evaluation of Modular Thermally Driven Heat Pump Systems

    Abstract : The building sector accounts for approximately 40% of primary energy use within the European Union, therefore reductions in the energy use intensity of this sector are critical in decreasing total energy usage. Given that the majority of energy used within the built environment is for space conditioning and domestic hot water preparation, prudence would suggest that decreasing primary energy used for these end purposes would have the biggest overall environmental impact. Abstract : In the transition towards a sustainable energy system, building mounted solar photovoltaics (PV) have unique benefits; they require no additional land and the energy is generated directly at load centers. Within residential buildings, multi-family homes (MFH) are particularly interesting because of the economies of scale and their greater potential for emissions reductions. READ MORE

  4. 4. Solar Colletors Combined with Ground-Source Heat Pumps in Dwellings - Analyses of System Performance

    Author : Elisabeth Kjellsson; Avdelningen för Byggnadsfysik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; heating in dwellings; TRNSYS simulations; solar collectors; ground-source heat pumps; ground heat;

    Abstract : The use of ground-source heat pumps for heating buildings and domestic hot water in dwellings is increasing rapidly in Sweden. The heat pump extracts heat from the ground by a U-pipe in a vertical borehole. In order to reduce the electricity demand in the system, the combination with solar collectors is introduced. Abstract : Exploiting solar energy technology for both heating and cooling purposes has the potential of meeting an appreciable portion of the energy demand in buildings throughout the year. By developing an integrated, multi-purpose solar energy system, that can operate all twelve months of the year, a high utilisation factor can be achieved which translates to more economical systems.
