  1. 1. The dielectric properties of solid biofuels

    Author : Ana Marta Paz; Erik Dahquist; Ebbe Nyfors; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : dielectric properties; solid biofuels; moisture content determination; Energy- and Environmental Engineering; energi- och miljöteknik;

    Abstract : The use of bioenergy has been increasing due to efforts in fossil fuels replacement. Modern bioenergy technologies aim for high efficiency and low pollution levels, which increases the need for methods for the on-line characterization of biofuels. READ MORE

  2. 2. Principles and Models of Solid Fuel Combustion

    Author : Henrik Thunman; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wood; single particle; modelling; fluidized bed; thermochemical conversion; fixed bed; coal; thermal conductivity; fuel loading; measurements; thermochemical properties; biofuels; combustion; grate;

    Abstract : Combustion of solid fuels stands for a substantial part of the heat and power production in the world. In this thesis different aspects related to the thermochemical conversion of solid fuels in fluidized and fixed beds are treated, such as: the combustion temperature of a fuel particle related to the surrounding temperature in a fluidized bed combustor (FBC); the fuel loading in a FBC; a transient description of the conversion of non-spherical fuel particles; the thermochemical properties and composition of volatiles released from wood; the thermal conductivity of wood during different stages of conversion; the modelling of a grate furnace; the general combustion behaviour of a fixed bed on a reciprocating or a travelling grate; and finally, the design and construction of experimental units for investigation of combustion in a fixed bed. 3. 3. Capture of CO2 from solid fuels using Chemical-Looping Combustion and Chemical-Looping Oxygen Uncoupling

    Author : Henrik Leion; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; chemical-looping with oxygen uncoupling; fluidized bed; gasification; CO2-capture; biofuels; oxygen carrier; chemical looping combustion; CLOU; petroleum coke; coal; CLC;

    Abstract : In order to meet the global demand of CO2 neutral energy, chemical-looping combustion could play an important role. Oxygen can be transferred from the combustion air to the fuel by means of oxygen carrying metal oxide particles circulating between two reactors, an air- and a fuel reactor. READ MORE

  4. 4. Characterisation of Fuels and Fly Ashes from Co-Combustion of Biofuels and Waste Fuels in a Fluidised Bed Boiler. A Phosphorus and Alkali Perspective

    Author : Anita Pettersson; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phosphorus recovery; co-combustion; fluidised bed combustion; olivine; Biofuels; zeolites; fertiliser; extraction; refuse derived fuels; kaolin; alkali; sulphur; ash; municipal sewage sludge;

    Abstract : In the efforts to create sustainable production of heat and power and to reduce the net CO2 emissions to the atmosphere, alternative fuels are today being utilised. These fuels are, for example, biofuels and waste derived fuels such as different residues from the agricultural sector and the pulp and paper industry, municipal sewage sludge and municipal sorted solid waste. 5. 5. Mitigating Off-Gassing and Self-Heating in Fuel Wood Pellets Storage : A Raw Materials Selection and Pre-Treatment Centred Approach

    Author : Workson Siwale; Jonas Berghel; Gunnar Henriksson; Michael Finell; Stefan Frodeson; Mani Sudhagar; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; solid biofuels; densified biomass; heat generation; off-gas emissions; carbon monoxide; carbon dioxide; methane; fatty and resin acids; Miljö- och energisystem; Environmental and Energy Systems;

    Abstract : Wood pellets have become a preferred solid biomass fuel for heat and power generation due to their standardized nature, known properties, and consistent quality. However, pellets produced from fresh sawdust sometimes undergo self-heating and off-gassing during storage. This poses a challenge for their transportation and storage. READ MORE
