  1. 1. Circular bioeconomy through valorisation of agro-industrial residues by the edible filamentous fungus Neurospora intermedia

    Author : Rebecca Gmoser; Mohammad J Taherzadeh; José António Teixeira; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Neurospora intermedia; mycoprotein; carotenoids; feed; solid-state fermentation; circular bioeconomy; Resource Recovery; Resursåtervinning;

    Abstract : Prevention of dramatic climate change and ensuring food and nutrition security for subsequent generations necessitates the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and efficient use of the world’s resources, including efficient waste disposal. The agro-industrial sector generates a large amount of organic waste, that is currently underexploited owing to poor waste management practices. READ MORE

  2. 2. Harnessing the potential of filamentous fungi for sustainable and healthy food system

    Author : Neda Rousta; Mohammad J Taherzadeh; Duu-Jong Lee; Högskolan i Borås; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; sustainable food system; mycoprotein; bioactive compounds; L-carnitine; submerged fermentation; healthy food; edible filamentous fungi; Resource Recovery; Resursåtervinning;

    Abstract : Food systems have the potential to improve human health while contributing to environmental sustainability; however, they are currently endangering both. The current food system, which is often based on animal farming, is responsible for global greenhouse gas emissions, and increases the incidence of, and mortality from, non-communicable diseases. 3. 3. Production, purification and characterization of antibacterial biomolecules from an alkaliphilic Bacillus

    Author : Abolghasem Danesh; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Forty alkaliphiles, which were isolated from samples collected in Eastern Africa, have been screened for production of antibacterial compounds. One of these isolates, Bacillus halodurans B20, was able to produce a prominent amount of antibacterial activity against a Gram-positive bacteria on agar plates [paper I] and selected for further study. 4. 4. Laccase from a Litter Degrading Fungus: Evaluation for Environmental Applications and Modification of Lignin to a Bioadhesive

    Author : Victor Ibrahim; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Laccase, the phenol oxidizing enzyme, was first described towards the end of the 19th century from the wound sap of the lacquer tree Rhus vernicifera. The enzyme has the widest distribution in nature among the multicopper oxidases. It catalyzes single electron transfer oxidation in the presence of molecular oxygen producing water as by-product. 5. 5. Laccases from New Fungal Sources and Some Promising Applications

    Author : Laura Mendoza; Bioteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Fungi; ligninases; modification of primary alcohols; modification of lignin; laccase applications; dye decolorization;

    Abstract : Fungi are a group of organisms with the ability to produce different types of enzymes in order to get access to nutrients. Among the enzymes, oxidoreductases have the ability to degrade lignocellulosic material via an oxidative mechanism, facilitating the uptake of cellulosic material, which will be metabolized using other enzymes to provide the required nutrients to the fungi.
