1. Solids Flow in Large-Scale Circulating Fluidized Bed Furnaces
Abstract : The flow pattern of solids established in large-scale circulating fluidized bed (CFB) furnaces is of great importance for the performance of commercial CFB boilers, as it governs the heat transfer and mixing of the fuel and any other reactive solids. The solids flow pattern in the riser is crucial for the design and scaling up of large-scale CFB technologies for the thermochemical conversion of solids. READ MORE

2. SOLIDS MIXING IN BUBBLING FLUIDIZED BEDS
Abstract : For solid fuels, thermochemical conversion processes such as combustion and gasification are especially suitable to be carried out in fluidized bed units because of the relatively high mixing rates, fuel flexibility and the possibility to use active bed material to enhance process efficiency. Mixing of fuel is important to ensure complete conversion and reduced emissions of unburnt material. READ MORE

3. Lateral mixing of solids in bubbling fluidized beds – experimental quantification
Abstract : For solid fuels, thermochemical conversion processes such as combustion and gasification are especially suitable to be carried out in fluidized bed units because of the relatively high mixing rates, fuel flexibility and the possibility to use active bed material to enhance process efficiency. Fuels such as biomass and waste, which are commonly used in fluidized beds, are characterized by volatile contents much higher than what is found in fossil fuels such as coal. READ MORE

4. Investigation of Solids Distribution and External Solids Flux in a Circulating Fluidized Bed Boiler
Abstract : This work concentrates on two issues regarding combustion in circulating fluidized bed (CFB) boilers. Firstly, the impact of co-combustion of coal with sewage sludge on ash flows, bed material and gas concentrations in a CFB boiler is studied. READ MORE

5. Solids flows in circulating fluidized beds: explorations of phenomena with applications to boilers
Abstract : The circulating fluidized bed (CFB), which is a technology that is commonly used in the heat and power sector, efficiently converts renewable and/or and low-grade solid fuels, such as biomass and biogenic waste fractions. CFB units serve also as a technological platform for carbon capture processes (combustion by oxy-firing or chemical looping), which are foreseen to play a key role in the transition of the energy system towards decreased atmospheric CO2 emissions.
