  1. 11. Computational and Experimental Models for the Prediction of Intestinal Drug Solubility and Absorption

    Author : Christel A. S. Bergström; Per Artursson; Han van de Waterbeemd; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutics; aqueous drug solubility; melting point; intestinal drug permeability; pH-dependent solubility; multivariate data analysis; molecular descriptors; molecular surface area; in silico modeling; drug absorption; Galenisk farmaci; Pharmaceutics; Galenisk farmaci;

    Abstract : New effective experimental techniques in medicinal chemistry and pharmacology have resulted in a vast increase in the number of pharmacologically interesting compounds. However, the number of new drugs undergoing clinical trial has not augmented at the same pace, which in part has been attributed to poor absorption of the compounds. READ MORE

  2. 12. Dissolving the Rocks : Solubility Enhancement of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients using Mesoporous Silica

    Author : Xin Xia; Alfonso E. Garcia-Bennett; Xiaodong Zou; Göran Frenning; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mesoporous silica; drug delivery; solubility enhancement; active pharmaceutical ingredients; oral toxicity; confinement; crystallization; pharmaceutical excipients; bioavailability; Inorganic Chemistry; oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : Poor aqueous solubility is one of the greatest barriers for new drug candidates to enter toxicology studies, let alone clinical trials. This thesis focuses on contributing to solving this problem, evaluating the oral toxicity of mesoporous silica particles, and enhancing the apparent solubility and bioavailability of active pharmaceutical ingredients in vitro and in vivo using mesoporous silica particles. 3. 13. Amyloid β peptide: from monomer solubility to fibril structure

    Author : Veronica Lattanzi; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alzheimer´s disease; Aβ solubility; small angle scattering; number of filaments; Aβ40; Aβ42 and Aβ42 S26Q ; fibril structure;

    Abstract : Alzheimer´s disease (AD) is the most common human neuro-degenerative disease characterized by the formation of cerebral plaques. Several are the amyloid-beta (Aβ) variants found in the brain of healthy individuals. READ MORE

  4. 14. Evaluation of a Miniaturized Rotating Disk Apparatus for In Vitro Dissolution Rate Measurements in Aqueous Media : Correlation of In Vitro Dissolution Rate with Apparent Solubility

    Author : Anita M. Persson; Curt Pettersson; Anders Sokolowski; Anders Karlsson; Alex Avdeef; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : The general aim of this thesis was to evaluate a newly designed and constructed miniaturized rotating disk apparatus for in vitro dissolution rate measurements of different drug substances from all of the classes in the Biopharmaceutical Classification System (BCS). The new equipment is based on a low volume flow-through cell of Plexiglas, a gold plated magnetic bar and a special designed press. READ MORE

  5. 15. Model for activity coefficients and solubilities of Na2CO3 and Na2SO4 in high-temperature solutions

    Author : Marta Anna Bialik; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; scaling; Pitzer model; activity coefficient; solubility; sodium carbonate; sodium sulfate; boiling point raise; double salt; solid solution; burkeite;

    Abstract : Scaling of sodium sulfate and sodium carbonate double salts has long been recognized as a problem in the black liquor evaporation process. These salts are abundant in black liquor and often tend to precipitate on heat transfer areas, thereby significantly decreasing the heat transfer efficiency. READ MORE
