1. Concatemerization of Synthetic Oligonucleotides
Abstract : DNA nanotechnology has become an important research field because of its advantages in high predictability and accuracy of base-paring recognition. For example, the DNA concatemer, one of the simplest DNA constructs in shape, has been used to enhance signals in biosensing. READ MORE

2. On Hybrid Fuel Cell and Battery Systems for Maritime Applications
Abstract : Hydrogen is seen as a key player in leading to a sustainable energy sector and decarbonizing the transport sector. Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFCs) consume hydrogen and oxygen to generate water, heat and electricity. READ MORE

3. The Light-up Probe
Abstract : The work presented in this thesis concerns the development of light-up probes and their potential applications in PCR based molecular diagnostics. The light-up probe is a nucleic acid analog (here PNA) oligomer linked to an asymmetric cyanine dye (here thiazole orange) and it combines the excellent hybridization properties of PNA with the large fluorescence enhancement of the dye upon binding to DNA. 4. Genotyping RNA and DNA using padlock probes
Abstract : Novel techniques are needed to investigate the genetic variation revealed in the first draft of the human genome sequence. Padlock probes are recently developed reagents, suitable for detecting single-nucleotide variations of DNA and RNA in situ or in solution. READ MORE

5. Molecular pharmacology of amiodarone
Abstract : Amiodarone (Am) is a potent class III antiarrhythmic drug. Its use is limited due to serious side effects and it was therefore used only when other therapeutic interventions proved to be ineffective. READ MORE
