  1. 1. Somatostatin Receptor Expression and Biological Functions in Endocrine Pancreatic Cells

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Eva Ludvigsen; Uppsala universitet.; [2006]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell biology; somatostatin; somatostatin receptors; somatostatin analogues; NOD mouse; type 1 diabetes; pancreatic islets; BON-1 cells; Cellbiologi; NATURAL SCIENCES Biology Cell and molecular biology Cell biology; NATURVETENSKAP Biologi Cell- och molekylärbiologi Cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Type 1 diabetes is resulting from the selective destruction of insulin-producing beta-cells within the pancreatic islets. Somatostatin acts as an inhibitor of hormone secretion through specific receptors (sst1-5). READ MORE

  2. 2. Small Intestinal Neuroendocrine Tumor Analyses Somatostatin Analog Effects and MicroRNA Profiling

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Su-Chen Li; Uppsala universitet.; [2014]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors; Somatostatin analogs; Laser-capture microdissection; Microarray profiling and microRNA profiling; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylärbiologi;

    Abstract : Small intestinal neuroendocrine tumors (SI-NETs) originate from serotonin-producing enterochromaffin (EC) cells in the intestinal mucosa. Somatostatin analogs (SSAs) are mainly used to control hormonal secretion and tumor growth. However, the molecular mechanisms leading to the control of SI-NETs are unknown. READ MORE

  3. 3. Expression and localisation of somatostatin receptor subtype 2a in neuroendocrine cells and cells of neuroectodermal origin

    Abstract : Peptides are involved in many physiological processes such as regulation of blood-pressure, food intake, pain transmission and blood-glucose levels. They consist of amino acids that are connected through amide bonds which make peptides hydrophilic and conformationally flexible. READ MORE

  5. 5. Growth hormone regulation of hepatic drug-metabolising enzymes in humans and rats

    University dissertation from Uppsala : Acta Universitatis Upsaliensis

    Author : Eva Rasmussen; Uppsala universitet.; [1999]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Medical sciences; growth hormone; IGF-I; somatostatin; cytochrome P450; regulation; MEDICIN OCH VÅRD; MEDICINE; MEDICIN; klinisk farmakologi; Clinical Pharmacology;

    Abstract : There are pronounced sex-differences in the gene expression of several liver enzymes in the rat. The sex-differentiated secretion of growth hormone (GH) regulates these differences. We wanted to further investigate the mechanisms of this regulation in rats and to study the GH regulation of drug metabolism in man. READ MORE
