  1. 1. Interactive sonification of motion : Design, implementation and control of expressive auditory feedback with mobile devices

    Author : Gaël Dubus; Roberto Bresin; Paul Vickers; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Speech and Music Communication; Tal- och musikkommunikation;

    Abstract : Sound and motion are intrinsically related, by their physical nature and through the link between auditory perception and motor control. If sound provides information about the characteristics of a movement, a movement can also be influenced or triggered by a sound pattern. READ MORE

  2. 2. Sound perception and design in multimodal environments

    Author : PerMagnus Lindborg; Anders K. Friberg; Daniel Västfjäll; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; sound; perception; design; multimodal; environment; soundscape; music; listening; crossmodal; psychoacoustics; psychophysiology; personality trait; emotion; appraisal; aesthetics; colour; correlation; regression; classification; sonification; Tal- och musikkommunikation; Speech and Music Communication;

    Abstract : This dissertation is about sound in context. Since sensory processing is inherently multimodal, research in sound is necessarily multidisciplinary. The present work has been guided by principles of systematicity, ecological validity, complementarity of  methods, and integration of science and art. READ MORE

  3. 3. A Sound Approach Toward a Mobility Aid for Blind and Low-Vision Individuals

    Abstract : Reduced independent mobility of blind and low-vision individuals (BLVIs) cause considerable societal cost, burden on relatives, and reduced quality of life for the individuals, including increased anxiety, depression symptoms, need of assistance, risk of falls, and mortality. Despite the numerous electronic travel aids proposed since at least the 1940’s, along with ever-advancing technology, the mobility issues persist. READ MORE

  4. 4. Before Sound: Transversal Processes in Site-Specific Sonic Practice

    Author : Åsa Stjerna; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; sound installation; site specific; site specificity; sound art; artistic research; philosophy of immanence; assemblage; affect; ethics; public space; transversality; transversal; Gilles Deleuze; Félix Guattari; sonification; sound design; sonic practice; transformation;

    Abstract : This doctoral research explores the capacity of site-specific practices of sound installation to bring about transformation. It claims that in order to understand this capacity, we need to address the complexity of the transversal processes that make up artistic practices in this field, and understand that these transversal processes in fact precede sound. 5. 5. From Motion Pictures to Robotic Features : Adopting film sound design practices to foster sonic expression in social robotics through interactive sonification

    Author : Adrian Benigno Latupeirissa; Roberto Bresin; Kjetil Falkenberg; Iolanda Leite; KC Collins; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; human-robot interaction; social robotics; film sound design; robot sound; interactive sonification; människa-robotinteraktion; social robotik; filmljuddesign; robotljud; interaktiv sonifiering; Media Technology; Medieteknik;

    Abstract : This dissertation investigates the role of sound design in social robotics, drawing inspiration from robot depictions in science-fiction films. It addresses the limitations of robots’ movements and expressive behavior by integrating principles from film sound design, seeking to improve human-robot interaction through expressive gestures and non-verbal sounds.
