  1. 1. Numerical Modelling of Soot Formation in Turbulent Non-Premixed Flames

    Author : Olga Roditcheva; Strömningsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Motorer; Motors and propulsion systems; Teknik; Technological sciences; oxidation of soot.; soot; polutant formation; flamelet approach; Combustion; turbulence; framdrivningssystem; Thermal engineering; applied thermodynamics; Termisk teknik; termodynamik;

    Abstract : This thesis describes an extended flamelet approach for modelling of soot formation in turbulent hydrocarbons diffusion flames. Detailed chemical kinetic mechanisms are used to compute species concentrations, temperature, density and soot formation rates as functions of flamelet coordinates in the space of mixture fraction and scalar dissipation rate. 3. 3. Laser-based diagnostics for investigating soot formation in combustion processes

    Author : MANU Mannazhi; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Soot formation; Laser diagnostics; Combustion; Laser-induced Incandescence; Fysicumarkivet A2022:Mannazhi;

    Abstract : In this work, laser-based diagnostic techniques were developed and applied to investigate soot formation in small-scale laboratory burners as well as in practical combustion devices. Quantitative 2D laser-induced incandescence (LII) measurements often use a cylindrical lens to shape the beam and illuminate the planar region of interest. READ MORE

  4. 4. Optical Diagnostics of Soot in Combusting Sprays

    Author : Raul Lima Ochoterena; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Optical diagnostics.; Laser Induced Incandescence LII ; Elastic Light Scattering ELS ; Soot formation; Flame temperature; Spray combustion; Light Extinction LE ;

    Abstract : Optical diagnostics in combusting diesel sprays were carried out in the Chalmers High Pressure, High Temperature (HP/HT) spray rig at conditions similar to those in an internal combustion engine, reaching up to 100 bar and 630 ◦ C. Spray development studies and combustion characterisation were done by high speed shadowgraphs that were digitally processed to measure the start of combustion, break-up, droplets and vapour penetration. 5. 5. Detailed Soot Modelling in Laminar and Turbulent Reacting Flows

    Author : Michael Balthasar; Förbränningsmotorer; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; soot; turbulent; flames; engines; turbines; carbon black; ionization; laminar; Physics; Fysik; Fysicumarkivet A:2000:Balthasar;

    Abstract : In the present work a detailed kinetic soot model is applied to study the formation and oxidation of soot particles in laminar premixed and turbulent non-premixed flames. The soot model used in this study is based on a detailed description of the chemical and physical processes involved in the formation of soot. READ MORE
