  1. 1. Laser-Induced Incandescence for Soot Diagnostics: Theoretical Investigation and Experimental Development

    Author : Jonathan Johnsson; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; premixed flat flames; fractal soot aggregates; laser-induced incandescence; soot; soot optical properties; soot absorption function; laser diagnostics; Fysicumarkivet A:2012:Johnsson;

    Abstract : Laser-induced incandescence, LII, is a laser-diagnostic technique that can be used to measure the volume fraction and the sizes of soot particles suspended in a gas, such as within a combustion process or in its exhausts. The technique is based on the facts that the time-decay of the radiation from laser-heated soot particles is directly related to the particle size in the probed volume, and that the time-integrated radiation is related to the soot volume fraction. 2. 2. Numerical Modelling of Soot Formation in Turbulent Non-Premixed Flames

    Author : Olga Roditcheva; Strömningsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Motorer; Motors and propulsion systems; Teknik; Technological sciences; oxidation of soot.; soot; polutant formation; flamelet approach; Combustion; turbulence; framdrivningssystem; Thermal engineering; applied thermodynamics; Termisk teknik; termodynamik;

    Abstract : This thesis describes an extended flamelet approach for modelling of soot formation in turbulent hydrocarbons diffusion flames. Detailed chemical kinetic mechanisms are used to compute species concentrations, temperature, density and soot formation rates as functions of flamelet coordinates in the space of mixture fraction and scalar dissipation rate. Abstract : The laser-induced incandescence technique (LII) is a laser-based diagnostic technique for measurements of soot volume fraction and particle size. The technique relies on detection of incandescent light from soot particles heated to around 4000 K using nanosecond laser pulses. READ MORE

  4. 4. Detailed Soot Modelling in Laminar and Turbulent Reacting Flows

    Author : Michael Balthasar; Förbränningsmotorer; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; soot; turbulent; flames; engines; turbines; carbon black; ionization; laminar; Physics; Fysik; Fysicumarkivet A:2000:Balthasar;

    Abstract : In the present work a detailed kinetic soot model is applied to study the formation and oxidation of soot particles in laminar premixed and turbulent non-premixed flames. The soot model used in this study is based on a detailed description of the chemical and physical processes involved in the formation of soot. READ MORE
