  1. 1. PWO Crystal Measurements and Simulation Studies of Anti-Hyperon Polarisation for PANDA

    Author : Sophie Grape; Tord Johansson; Thomas Nilsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PANDA; PWO; antiproton; hyperon; polarisation; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik; Kärnfysik; Nuclear Physics;

    Abstract : The Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung (GSI) facility in Darmstadt, Germany, will be upgraded to accommodate a new generation of physics experiments. The future accelerator facility will be called FAIR and one of the experimentsat the site will be PANDA, which aims at performing hadron physics investigations by colliding anti-protons with protons. 2. 2. Studies of PWO Crystals and Simulations of the p̅p →Λ̅Λ, Λ̅Σ0 Reactions for the PANDA Experiment

    Author : Sophie Grape; Tord Johansson; Per-Erik Tegnér; Kai-Thomas Brinkmann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; PANDA; antiproton; PWO; hyperon; lambda; simulation; polarisation; spin correlation; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik; Physics; fysik;

    Abstract : The thesis comprises investigations of two topics related to the PANDA experiment. The first part is dedicated to energy resolution and light yield uniformity studies of PWO crystals for the electromagnetic calorimeter. The second part of the thesis is dedicated to simulation studies of the p̅p→Λ̅Λ and the p̅p→Λ̅Σ0 channels. READ MORE

  3. 3. Enhancing the performance of the Digital Cherenkov Viewing Device : Detecting partial defects in irradiated nuclear fuel assemblies using Cherenkov light

    Author : Erik Branger; Sophie Grape; Christopher Orton; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DCVD; Nuclear safeguards; Cherenkov light; Nuclear fuel assembly; Partial defect verification; Fysik med inriktning mot tillämpad kärnfysik; Physics with specialization in Applied Nuclear Physics;

    Abstract : The Digital Cherenkov Viewing Device (DCVD) is an instrument used by authority safeguards inspectors to verify irradiated nuclear fuel assemblies in wet storage based on Cherenkov light emission. It is frequently used to verify that parts of an assembly have not been diverted, which is done by comparing the measured Cherenkov light intensity to a predicted one. READ MORE

  4. 4. Studies of Cherenkov light production in irradiated nuclear fuel assemblies

    Author : Erik Branger; Sophie Grape; Anders Hjalmarsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DCVD; Cherenkov light; Geant4; Nuclear fuel; Nuclear safeguards; Fysik med inriktning mot tillämpad kärnfysik; Physics with specialization in Applied Nuclear Physics;

    Abstract : The Digital Cherenkov Viewing Device (DCVD) is an instrument used by authority inspectors to assess irradiated nuclear fuel assemblies in wet storage for the purpose of nuclear safeguards. Originally developed to verify the presence of fuel assemblies with long cooling times and low burnup, the DCVD accuracy is sufficient for partial defect verification, where one verifies that part of an assembly has not been diverted. 5. 5. Development of Differential Die-Away Instrument for Characterization of Swedish Spent Nuclear Fuel

    Author : Tomas Martinik; Sophie Grape; Peter Jansson; Göran Ericsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The Next Generation Safeguards Initiative Spent Fuel (NGSI-SF) project was established in 2009 by the U.S. Departmentof Energy with main objective to investigate, and potentially develop and test new technologies for spent nuclearfuel (SNF) characterization. READ MORE
