  1. 1. SOUnd-DRIven BIOtechnology

    Author : Nasim Najjarzadeh; Paul Christakopoulos; Cristhian Álvaro Carrasco Villanueva; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; Biokemisk processteknik; Biochemical Process Engineering;

    Abstract : Ultrasound has been vastly applied in different areas such as medical imaging and the food industry, but not much attempt has been made to investigate its influence on microorganisms and its potential to be applied in microbial biotechnology. Previous studies show the potential of acoustic waves to increase biomass yield, production of secondary metabolites and enhanced enzyme-catalyzed reactions, probably due to improved mass transfer and cell retention. 2. 2. Textile Sound Design

    Author : Margareta Zetterblom; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; NATURAL SCIENCES; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; The Cresson Institute; Textile design; acoustics; phenomenography; sound environment; sound absorbing textiles; Pierre Schaeffer; phenomenology; interactive textile design; textile sound design;

    Abstract : There are a number of ways to describe the aesthetical expression of a textile, but how is it possible to express its sound affecting qualities? This thesis aims at developing conceptual and methodological tools in order to adapt sound within the textile design area. Occupational groups working with sound are to a large extent problem driven. 3. 3. Absorption of Sound : On the effects of field interaction on absorber performance

    Author : Anna Färm; Mats Åbom; Ragnar Glav; Susann Boij; Gareth Bennett; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Sound absorption; Porous absorbers; Bulk reaction; Local reaction; Boundary layer; Grazing flow; Temperature gradients; Surface impedance; Sound field; Pass-by noise; Farkostteknik; Vehicle and Maritime Engineering;

    Abstract : Environmental noise has for decades been a well known problem, especially in urban areas. As noise requirements for vehicles are sharpened, noise reducing concepts are needed in early design stages requiring accurate simulations to support the design. READ MORE

  4. 4. Drum sound from floor coverings - objective and subjective assessment

    Author : Ann-Charlotte Johansson; Teknisk akustik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; vakuumteknik; vibrationer; akustik; hydraulik; Maskinteknik; vacuum technology; vibration and acoustic engineering; hydraulics; acoustic standard; Mechanical engineering; tapping machine; veneer flooring; parquet flooring; binaural recording; foot impact; loudness; sound quality; listening test; paired comparisons; walking sound; drum sound; building acoustics; psychoacoustics; laminate flooring;

    Abstract : Drum sound is the sound produced when an object, such as a foot, hits the flooring in the room in which the receiving ear is located. Drum sound has attracted interest in recent years, particularly due to an increased use of thin floating floor constructions, such as veneer or laminate flooring, which can produce loud and sharp walking sound. Abstract : Proposing a ‘multivocal practice’ in the vocal arts, this exposition (documented artistic research project) embodies an inclusive approach to four core categories for the contemporary performance voice: the singing, speaking, extended and disembodied voice. The culmination of a four-year PhD project in the Performative and mediated practices, with specializations in choreography/film and media/opera /performing arts, it documents artistic research sub-projects through the presentation of multimedia material, interweaving performance recordings with reflection and informative threads.
