1. Joint Source-Channel Coding using Trellis Coded CPM
Abstract : The thesis investigates Joint Source and Channel Coding(JSCC) using combined Trellis Coded Quantization (TCQ) and coded modulation. First we investigate a JSCC scheme using combined TCQ/Trellis Coded CPM (TCQ/TCCPM). Based on the BCJR algorithm for trellis coded CPM, we derive an optimal soft decoding algorithm for the considered systems. READ MORE

2. Modeling and Control of Voltage Source Converters Connected to the Grid
Abstract : This thesis deals with the modeling and control of pulse width modulated (PWM) voltage source converters connected to the grid. When voltage source converters are connected to the grid, the power quality and the dynamic performance are affected by the line filter connected between the converter and the grid, and by nonlinearities caused by the switching converter. 3. Development and Investigation of Reactivity Measurement Methods in Subcritical Cores
Abstract : Subcriticality measurements during core loading and in future accelerator driven systems have a clear safety relevance. In this thesis two subcriticality methods are treated: the Feynman-alpha and the source modulation method. READ MORE

4. Temporal Modulation in Fluorescence Spectroscopy and Imaging for Biological Applications
Abstract : This thesis explores the benefits of intensity modulation for the purpose of extending the range of applications of fluorescence spectroscopy and imaging in cellular and molecular biology and medicine. Long-lived transient states of fluorescent molecules can, because of their long lifetimes, be used to detect subtle changes in the microenvironment of the molecule. READ MORE

5. High Efficiency Microwave Amplifiers and SiC Varactors Optimized for Dynamic Load Modulation
Abstract : The increasing use of mobile networks as the main source of internet connectivity is creating challenges in the infrastructure. Customer demand is a moving target and continuous hardware developments are necessary to supply higher data rates in an environmentally sustainable and cost effective way. READ MORE
