  1. 21. Adaptation of Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) to current and future climatic conditions

    Author : Jenny Lundströmer; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Climate change urges our understanding of the capacity of Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) population to adapt and maintain, and even increase, their growth capacity at the level required to sustain a transition towards a biobased socioeconomic model. Climate change is already anticipated to result in an increase of temperature. READ MORE

  2. 22. Determination of Land uplift in Areas not covered by Repeated Levellings with application to South-Norway

    Author : Jan Danielsen; Lars Sjöberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract :  The fennoscandia post glacial uplift rate of today, the time averaged vertical velocity, is usually determined by mareographs and repeated leveling. We consider situations where parts of the levelling not are observed only once. READ MORE

  3. 23. Carbon castles vs. beetle-fungus armies : phenology of the spruce bark beetle and Norway spruce resistance in times of climate change

    Author : Petter Öhrn; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In recent years, carbon sequestration in European forests has decreased due to extensive droughts and bark beetle outbreaks brought on by climate change. The Eurasian spruce bark beetle (Ips typographus (L.)) is a natural disturbance agent in forests where Norway spruce (Picea abies (Karst)) is dominant. READ MORE

  4. 24. Impact of tree species on carbon in forest soils

    Author : Karna Hansson; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; Sveriges lantbruksuniversitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Different tree species differ in productivity, litter quality and quantity, canopy structure and nitrogen deposition. Norway spruce (Picea abies), Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris) and birch (Betula pendula and B. pubescens) are the three dominant tree species in Sweden. READ MORE

  5. 25. Palaeoenvironmental reconstructions from modern and ancient plant DNA

    Author : Kevin Nota; Laura Parducci; Love Dalén; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular palaeoecology; Ancient lake sediments; Post-glacial migration; Floral changes; Biology with specialization in Ecological Botany; Biologi med inriktning mot ekologisk botanik;

    Abstract : Palaeoecological studies on lake sediments and peat archives have provided fundamental knowledge about past environments, nevertheless, a lot remains to be learned. In this thesis, I focussed on plant ancient DNA extracted from sedimentary archives (sedaDNA), in combination with DNA from living trees with the aims of: (1) investigating different extraction methods and levels of inhibition in sediments, (2) investigating postglacial recolonisation history of Norway spruce in Fennoscandia, (3) comparing different sequencing and bioinformatic approaches to investigate past flora changes using sedaDNA and investigating past flora change in contrasting environments (southern Italy versus southern Sweden), and (4) communicating my work more broadly using art.
