  1. 1. Anaerobic Digester Fluid Rheology and Process Efficiency : Interactions of Substrate Composition, Trace Element Availability, and Microbial Activity

    Author : Luka Šafarič; Annika Björn; Sepehr Shakeri Yekta; David Bastviken; David C Stuckey; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; Anaerobic digestion; biogas; rheology; trace elements; microbiology; Anaerob rötning; biogas; reologi; spårämnen; mikrobiologi;

    Abstract : As the anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions continue imposing stress on our environment, it is becoming increasingly important to identify and implement new renewable technologies. Biogas production through anaerobic digestion has a great potential, since it links waste treatment with extraction of renewable energy, enabling circular bio-economies that are vital for a sustainable future. 2. 2. Hydrogeochemistry of arsenic, fluoride, and other trace elements in groundwater in northern Tanzania : Occurrence, distribution, and impacts on drinking water quality

    Author : Fanuel Josephat Ligate; Prosun Bhattacharya; Felix W Mtalo; Jyoti Prakash Maity; Joyanto Routh; KTH; []
    Keywords : Arsenic; Fluoride; Groundwater; Lake Victoria basin; Risk assessment; Sanya alluvial plain; Tanzania.; Aseniki; Bonde la Ziwa Victoria; Floridi; Maji yaliyopo ardhini; Tanzania; Tathmini ya hatari; Uwanda wa Aluvia ya Sanya.; Arsenik; Fluorid; Grundvatten; Viktoriasjön; Riskbedömning; Sanya alluvial slätt; Tanzania.; Mark- och vattenteknik; Land and Water Resources Engineering;

    Abstract : The occurrence of arsenic (As), fluoride (F-), and other trace elements (TEs) with potential toxicity in groundwater is a global environmental concern. According to the National water resource mapping database, about 76 % of the drinking water supply in Tanzania is abstracted from groundwater sources. READ MORE

  3. 3. Optimisation and Validation of Dynamic Susceptibility Contrast MRI Perfusion Measurements

    Author : Linda Knutsson; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nukleärmedicin; radiobiologi; Nuclear medicine; radiobiology; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering; tomography; medical instrumentation; Clinical physics; cerebral blood volume; mean transit time; cerebral blood flow; perfusion; dynamic susceptibility contrast MRI arterial input function; Klinisk fysiologi; radiology;

    Abstract : The studies presented in this thesis concern the optimisation and evaluation of the dynamic susceptibility contrast magnetic resonance imaging (DSC-MRI) technique for the assessment of perfusion-related parameters of the brain, such as cerebral blood flow (CBF), cerebral blood volume (CBV) and mean transit time (MTT). Several methodological factors influence these measurements, for example, contrast-agent administration, arterial input function (AIF) registration, choice of deconvolution algorithm and the choice of pulse-sequence parameters. Abstract : A very small part of the total earth’s water is freshwater (only 2.5 %). Unfortunately, due to climate change and pervasive manmade activities, surface freshwater quality in many places of the world has become degraded. READ MORE

  5. 5. Solute transport in fractured rocks : Analysis of analytical solutions and determination of transport parameters

    Author : Shuo Meng; Longcheng Liu; Ivars Neretnieks; Lanru Jing; Klaus-Peter Kröhn; KTH; []

    Abstract : In order to facilitate the assessment of the safety and function of deep geological repositories for radioactive waste, several models have been developed to describe water flow and transport of solutes in fractured crystalline rock. The rock around the repository is described and modelled as a network of water-bearing fractures. READ MORE
