  1. 1. Method development for isotope analysis of trace and ultra-trace elements in environmental matrices

    Author : Nicola Pallavicini; Ilia Rodushkin; Johan Ingri; Frank Vanhaecke; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Applied Geology; Tillämpad geologi;

    Abstract : The increasing load of toxic elements entering the ecosystems, as a consequence of anthropogenic processes, has grown public awareness in the last decades, resulting in a great number of studies focusing on pollution sources, transport, distribution, interactions with living organisms and remediation. Physical/chemical processes that drive the uptake, assimilation, compartmentation and translocation of heavy metals in biota has received a great deal of attention recently, since elemental concentrations and isotopic composition in biological matrices can be used as  probes of both natural and anthropogenic sources. 2. 2. Onboard condition monitoring of vehicle-track dynamic interaction using machine learning : Enabling the railway industry’s digital transformation

    Author : Rohan Kulkarni; Mats Berg; Ulf Carlsson; Alireza Qazizadeh; Sebastian Stichel; Jordi Viñolas; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Active preventive maintenance; intelligent fault diagnosis; anomaly detection; vehicle fleet; track irregularities; vehicle hunting; wheel-rail interface.; Farkostteknik; Vehicle and Maritime Engineering;

    Abstract : The railway sector’s reliability, availability, maintainability, and safety (RAMS) can significantly improve by adopting condition based maintenance (CBM). In the CBM regime, maintenance decisions are driven by condition monitoring (CM) of the asset. READ MORE

  3. 3. Charged particle distributions and robustness of the neural network pixel clustering in ATLAS

    Author : Edvin Sidebo; Jonas Strandberg; Bengt Lund-Jensen; David Silvermyr; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; p p: scattering; ATLAS; LHC; charged particle: multiplicity; semiconductor detector: pixel; neural network: performance; track data analysis: cluster; charged particle: cluster; splitting; CERN LHC Coll; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : This thesis contains a study of the robustness of the artificial neural network used in the ATLAS track reconstruction algorithm as a tool to recover tracks in dense environments. Different variations, motivated by potential discrepancies between data and simulation, are performed to the neural network’s input while monitoring the corresponding change in the output. READ MORE

  4. 4. On the Formation of Cathedral Chapters and Cathedral Culture : Lund, Denmark, and Scandinavia, c. 1060–1225

    Author : A. M. Ciardi; Kyrko- och missionsstudier; []

    Abstract : The cathedral was one of the most important institutions in medieval Europe. The local as well as ecclesiastical elite gathered around it and its bishop; the liturgy was celebrated day and night, year after year; the cathedral served as educational institution of the clergy. The cathedral chapter, i.e. READ MORE

  5. 5. Discrete element technique for modeling high-speed railway tracks

    Author : Alireza Ahmadi; Stefan Larsson; Carl Wersäll; Liang Cui; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Polygonal particles; Direct shear test; Particle scaling; Bal- lasted track; DEM; Polygonala partiklar; direkt skjuvförsök; partikelskalning; ballastspår; DEM; Soil and Rock Mechanics; Jord- och bergmekanik;

    Abstract : The Discrete element method (DEM) is a methodology to investigatethe interactions among granular materials. It analyzes the behavior of par-ticulate environments by solving force-displacement equations that adhereto Newton’s second law of motion. READ MORE
