  1. 21. Virtual Mobility and Pollution Prevention - The Emerging Role of ICT Based Communication in Organisations and its Impact on Travel

    Author : Peter Arnfalk; Internationella miljöinstitutet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; pollution control; Environmental technology; travel reduction; pollution prevention; telework; web-meetings; audioconferencing; videoconferencing; virtual mobility; virtual communication; IT; IKT; ICT; Miljöteknik; kontroll av utsläpp; Informatics; systems theory; Informatik; systemteori; Telecommunication engineering; Telekommunikationsteknik;

    Abstract : Information and Communication Technologies change the way we work and communicate, enabling us to telework and to have virtual meetings - collaborating without a physical meeting. This can influence the need for commuting and business travel by provision of access to an activity without mobility - virtual mobility. READ MORE

  2. 22. Species extinctions in food webs : local and regional processes

    Author : Anna Eklöf; Bo Ebenman; Peter Münger; Marcel Holyoak; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Extinction; food web; metacommunity; dispersal; species loss; migration; habitat fragmentation; connectance; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : Loss of biodiversity is one of the most severe threats to the ecosystems of the world. The major causes behind the high population and species extinction rates are anthropogenic activities such as overharvesting of natural populations, pollution, climate change and destruction and fragmentation of natural habitats. 3. 23. Designing, evaluating and exploring Web-based tools for collaborative annotation of documents

    Author : Henrry Rodriguez; KTH; []
    Keywords : WWW; discussion; annotation; design; writing; collaborative work; asynchronous communication; text-based communication;

    Abstract : This thesis explores the use of the World Wide Web asinfrastructure for collaboration among small or middle sizedgroups. A collection of Web-based tools has been developed,whose main characteristic is that they allow users to makeannotations to shared documents. READ MORE

  4. 24. Games of Justice: Ethnographic Inquiries on Space, Subjectivity and Law in Northern Kurdistan

    Author : Cansu Bostan; Rättssociologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Law and justice; Spatialization; Truth-subjectivity regime; Game of truth; Becomings; Ethnography; Amed; Northern Kurdistan;

    Abstract : This study presents an ethnographic exploration of subjective experiences relying on different historicizations and the ways they inform the connections between law and justice in Northern Kurdistan. By analyzing law and justice as ethnographic objects whose forms and functions are contingent upon being named and attributed meanings, inquiries focus on various historicizations/spatializations in Northern Kurdistan to understand: i) the modern spatiotemporal boundaries of the Turkish nation-state, its law and justice narratives, ii) experiences informing justice aspirations and their translations into the experience-distant language of state law, and iii) appearing/disappearing mechanisms attributed justness and functions of legality beyond the state law. 5. 25. Ecosystem functioning in streams : Disentangling the roles of biodiversity, stoichiometry, and anthropogenic drivers

    Author : André Frainer; Roland Jansson; Brendan McKie; Jonathan Benstead; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; detrital food web; functional diversity; stoichiometry; nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations; recalcitrant carbon; spatial and temporal species distribution; pools and riffles; isotopes; leaf decomposition rates; land use; restoration; habitat complexity;

    Abstract : What will happen to ecosystems if species continue to go extinct at the high rates seen today? Although ecosystems are often threatened by a myriad of physical or chemical stressors, recent evidence has suggested that the loss of species may have impacts on the functions and services of ecosystems that equal or exceed other major environmental disturbances. The underlying causes that link species diversity to ecosystem functioning include species niche complementarity, facilitative interactions, or selection effects, which cause process rates to be enhanced in more diverse communities.
