  1. 1. Spark Plasma Sintering of Si3N4-based Ceramics : Sintering mechanism-Tailoring microstructure-Evaluationg properties

    Author : Hong Peng; Zhijian (James) Shen; Mats Nygren; Michael J. Hoffmann; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spark plasma sintering; silicon nitride ceramics; grain growth kinetic; superplasiticity; liqiud phase sintering; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) is a promising rapid consolidation technique that allows a better understanding and manipulating of sintering kinetics and therefore makes it possible to obtain Si3N4-based ceramics with tailored microstructures, consisting of grains with either equiaxed or elongated morphology. The presence of an extra liquid phase is necessary for forming tough interlocking microstructures in Yb/Y-stabilised α-sialon by HP. READ MORE

  2. 2. Rapid sintering of ceramics by intense thermal radiation

    Author : Duan Li; Zhijian Shen; Lutz-Michael Berger; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Sintering; sintering by intense thermal radiation; spark plasma sintering; heat transfer; mass transfer; scattering; coalescence; densification; grain growth; numerical simulation; porous ceramic; foaming; nanostructure; hierarchical heterogeneities; permeability; Materials Chemistry; materialkemi;

    Abstract : Sintering is an important processing step for obtaining the necessary mechanical stability and rigidity of ceramic bulk materials. Both mass and heat transfer are essential in the sintering process. The importance of radiation heat transfer is significantly enhanced at high temperatures according to the well-known Stefan-Boltzmann’s law. READ MORE

  3. 3. Spark Plasma Sintering Enhancing Grain Sliding, Deformation and Grain Size Control : Studies of the Systems Ti, Ti/TiB2, Na0.5 K0.5 NbO3, and Hydroxyapatite

    Author : Mirva Eriksson; Zhijian Shen; Takashi Goto; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Spark plasma sintering; plastic deformation; grain growth; titanium; TiB2; hydroxyapatite; Na0.5K0.5NbO3; ferroelectric; transparent; Materials chemistry; Materialkemi; Materials Chemistry; materialkemi;

    Abstract : The unique features of the Spark plasma sintering (SPS) were used to investigate the sintering and deformation behaviour of titanium and titanium–titanium diboride composites, and to control the sintering and grain growth of ferroelectric Na0.5K0.5NbO3 (NKN) and of hydroxyapatite (HAp). 4. 4. Spark plasma sintered ZrO2-SiO2 glass ceramics and Si3N4 bioceramics

    Author : Le Fu; Wei Xia; Håkan Engqvist; Jérôme Chevalier; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; ZrO2-SiO2 glass ceramic; high-strength; translucency; 3D nano-architecture; Si3N4 bioceramic; biodegradable; spark plasma sintering; Materialvetenskap; Materials Science;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on elaboration and characterization of two types of bioceramics: one is ZrO2-SiO2 nanocrystalline glass ceramic (NCGC) for dental application. The goal is to develop new ZrO2-SiO2 NCGCs with a combination of high strength and high translucency; the other is biodegradable Si3N4 ceramics for spinal fusion. READ MORE

  5. 5. Spark Plasma Sintered 3Y-TZP/CNT composites

    Author : Latifa Melk; Pavol Hvizdos; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materialteknik; Engineering Materials;

    Abstract : Composites of 3 mol% yttria-doped tetragonal zirconia (3Y-TZP) reinforced with multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) up to 2 wt% have been produced using spark plasma sintering (SPS). The theoretical densities of the studied composites were found to be between 99.4 and 97.4 %. READ MORE
