  1. 1. Regularization for Sparseness and Smoothness : Applications in System Identification and Signal Processing

    Author : Henrik Ohlsson; Lennart Ljung; Jacob Roll; Bo Wahlberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Regularization; sparsity; smothness; lasso; l1; fMRI; bio-feedback; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : In system identification, the Akaike Information Criterion (AIC) is a well known method to balance the model fit against model complexity. Regularization here acts as a price on model complexity. READ MORE

  2. 2. On the Measurement of Model Fit for Sparse Categorical Data

    Author : Katrin Kraus; Dag Sörbom; Ghazi Shukur; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; goodness-of-fit; sparseness; model fit; categorical data; fit statistic; sparse contingency table; Statistics; Statistik;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of four papers that deal with several aspects of the measurement of model fit for categorical data. In all papers, special attention is paid to situations with sparse data. READ MORE

  3. 3. Efficient Structure and Motion: Path Planning, Uncertainty and Sparsity

    Author : Sebastian Haner; Matematik LTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This thesis explores methods for solving the structure-and-motion problem in computer vision, the recovery of three-dimensional data from a series of two-dimensional image projections. The first paper investigates an alternative state space parametrization for use with the Kalman filter approach to simultaneous localization and mapping, and shows it has superior convergence properties compared with the state-of-the-art. 4. 4. Development of an Automatic Reduction Tool for Chemical Mechanisms and an Optimized Sparse Matrix Solver for Systems of Differential and Algebraic Equations

    Author : Andreas Arvidsson; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Abstract An N-Heptane mechanism and a Methane/Propane mechanism have been reduced by an Automatic Reduction Tool (ART) and simulated with two different solver combinations, which solve the set of ordinary differential equations governing the time evolution of the species simultaneously with solving algebraic equations for species that can be considered to be in quasi steady state. The most successful of the two solver combinations is an optimized combination of Newton solvers. READ MORE

  5. 5. Optimization-Based Motion Planning and Model Predictive Control for Autonomous Driving : With Experimental Evaluation on a Heavy-Duty Construction Truck

    Author : Pedro F. Lima; Bo Wahlberg; Paolo Falcone; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Automatic Control; Autonomous Driving; Model Predictive Control; Motion Planning; Optimization; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : This thesis addresses smooth motion planning and path following control of autonomous large and heavy industrial vehicles, such as trucks and buses, using optimization-based techniques. Autonomous driving is a rapidly expanding technology that promises to play an important role in future society, since it aims at more energy efficient, more convenient, and safer transport systems.
