  1. 21. Physical capacity in individuals with cerebral palsy : problems, needs and resources, with special emphasis on locomotion

    Author : Christina Andersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Many individuals with cerebral palsy (CP) have difficulties in walking independently because of impaired postural control, abnormal tone and pathological muscular coordination. Walkers are often a prerequisite and are often prescribed for assisting and providing the stability necessary for ambulation. READ MORE

  2. 22. Recovery and prediction of hand motor function after stroke : a longitudinal study using novel methods to quantify hand function and connectivity in brain networks

    Author : Jeanette Plantin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Background: Stroke is a heterogeneous disease and a leading cause of physical disability among adults, severely affecting people’s health and life worldwide. According to current figures, one in four people risk suffering a stroke during their lifetime. READ MORE

  3. 23. Standing with and without vibration in children with severe cerebral palsy

    Author : Ylva Dalén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Children with severe cerebral palsy (CP) risk fragile bones, fractures and hip dislocation due to disuse. A standing shell allows these children weight bearing in an upright position. Recommended standing time is one to two hours/day but evaluations are lacking. READ MORE

  4. 24. Disorders of the cerebral white matter in children

    Author : Ragnhildur Kristjánsdóttir; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; leukoencephalopathy - children - neurological impairments - magnetic resonance imaging - ophthalmology - visual evoked potentials - cerebrospinal fluid - sulfatide - glial fibrillary acidic protein - gangliosides - neurofilament - tau protein - monoamine metabolites;

    Abstract : The aims of this thesis were to describe the clinical spectrum in a large group of children characterised as having an abnormal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) signal from cerebral white matter (WM) and to study the radiological, clinical and ophthalmological features in that subgroup where aetiology was unknown. We also wanted to look at biochemical markers in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) to elucidate pathological processes which were responsible for the WM abnormalities. READ MORE

  5. 25. Measurements of Function in Children with Cerebral Palsy

    Author : Eva Nordmark; Barns och familjers hälsa; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; kinesitherapy; Physical medicine; epidemiology; function; Cerebral palsy; measurement; children; revalidation; rehabilitation; Rehabilitering medicinsk och social ;

    Abstract : Cerebral palsy (CP) is a term for a group of conditions associated with motor disabilities, that are very heterogeneous, i.e. symptoms, severity, associated impairments, functional outcome and needs. The overall purpose of this thesis was to study the prevalence and gross motor function and to evaluate and adapt measurements in children with CP. READ MORE
