6. Spatial variability of geogenic contaminants in drinking water sources : Insights into hydrogeological controls, geospatial data for safe water supply and groundwater resource management
Abstract : The presence of geogenic contaminants in drinking water is a major health concern in many parts of the world. The interaction of groundwater with different rock types and sediments in the natural geochemical environment play an important role in controlling their mobility. READ MORE

7. Computational Analysis of Tumour Heterogeneity
Abstract : Every tumour is unique and characterised by its genetic, epigenetic, phenotypic, and morphological signature. The diversity observed between and within tumours, and over time, is termed tumour heterogeneity. An increased heterogeneity within a tumour correlates with cancer progression, higher resistance rates, and poorer outcome. READ MORE

8. Monitoring biodiversity in cultural landscapes: development of remote sensing- and GIS-based methods
Abstract : In this thesis, I explore the relationships between structural and compositional landscape properties, and species diversity, using remotely sensed data on a variety of spatial scales. The thesis shows that increased landscape heterogeneity, measured using environmental and spectral variables that were used both separately and combined, is generally positively related to plant species richness. 9. Structure Dynamics and Heterogeneity in Soft Materials Determined by FRAP
Abstract : A common interest in industry today is to be able to control the mass transport inside soft (bio) materials in order to tailor both release and uptake of substances. Most of the materials used are heterogeneous, quite often multiphase or compound materials and often undergo dynamic changes; it is therefore important to have control over the local microstructure in order to tailor the macroscale properties. 10. RNA-based spatial characterization of cell and tissue heterogeneity
Abstract : Technical advances in cell biology have revolutionized the field of cell biology. With new technology it is now possible to address scientific questions in cell biology at the molecular level. READ MORE
