  1. 1. Spatial positioning method development for spatial analysis of interaction in buildings

    University dissertation from Stockholm : US-AB

    Author : Henrik Markhede; KTH.; [2010]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TECHNOLOGY Civil engineering and architecture Architecture and architectural conservation and restoration Architecture; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur Arkitektur och bebyggelsevård Arkitektur;

    Abstract : In offices, knowledge sharing largely depends on everyday face-to-face interaction patterns. These interaction patterns may depend on how employees move through the office space. This thesis explores how these spatial relations influence individual choices with respect to employee movements or routes. READ MORE

  2. 2. Functional understanding of space Representing spatial knowledge using concepts grounded in an agent's purpose

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Kristoffer Sjöö; KTH.; KTH.; [2011]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; spatial representation; autonomous robots; spatial understanding; semantic mapping; spatial relations; visual search; robot search;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the role of function in representations of space by robots - that is, dealing directly and explicitly with those aspects of space and objects in space that serve some purpose for the robot. It is suggested that taking function into account helps increase the generality and robustness of solutions in an unpredictable and complex world, and the suggestion is affirmed by several instantiations of functionally conceived spatial models. 3. 3. Surface patterns, spatiality and pattern relations in textile design

    University dissertation from Borås : Högskolan i Borås

    Author : Tonje Kristensen Johnstone; Högskolan i Borås.; [2017]
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Surface patterns; textile design; spatiality; spatial definers; design variables; pattern relations; conceptual spatial determinations; Textiles and Fashion Design ; Textil och mode konstnärlig ;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis focuses on surface patterns, spatiality, and pattern relations in textile design, and aims to explore surface patterns as spatial definers and what they mean in the context of surface patterns. A secondary focus relates to applying conceptual spatial determinations as alternative design variables in design processes, and exploring how these could be used to define and analyse pattern relations. 4. 4. Designing the Edge An Inquiry into the Psychospatial Nature of Meaning in the Architecture of the Urban Waterfront

    University dissertation from Stockholm : KTH Royal Institute of Technology

    Author : Konstantinos Ioannidis; KTH.; [2011]
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Urban design and theory; spatial psychology; spatial meaning; compositional strategies; formulative logic; waterfront design and spatial organization; psychospatial reading; transformational relations; design of the edge; TECHNOLOGY Civil engineering and architecture Architecture and architectural conservation and restoration Architecture; TEKNIKVETENSKAP Samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur Arkitektur och bebyggelsevård Arkitektur;

    Abstract : The initial goal of this effort is to develop a discussion on urban design process and thinking that acknowledges the needs of places with meaning in the design of the urban waterfront. The thesis addresses the fact that the problematic of the coastal formulation is intricate, comprising not only aspects related to the spatial organization and design of its domain but also shared properties originated by the presence and movement of the perceiving subject in the area.
