  1. 16. Spatial modelling and simulation for disease surveillance

    Author : Mohammadreza Rajabi; Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; GISgeografiska informationssystem; Agent Based Modeling; spatial epidemiology; machine learning;

    Abstract : This thesis addresses the application of spatial approaches to disease surveillance and control from three different aspects. First, temporal trends, geographical distribution and spatial pattern of cardiovascular disease admission rates were explored on a national level in Sweden. READ MORE

  2. 17. The spatial structure of genetic and morphometric variation in Corylus avellana (Betulaceae): pattern and scale

    Author : Helena Persson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phytogeography; chemotaxonomy. Physiology of nonvascular plants; Systematisk botanik; taxonomi; morfologi; kemotaxonomi. Växters fysiologi inte kärlväxter .; taxonomy; morphology; Systematic botany; Öland; clonal structure; marginal and central populations; image analysis; aerial photographs; morphometric variation; allozymes; Corylus avellana; genetic variation;

    Abstract : In the present thesis, I investigated the spatial structure of genetic and morphometric variation in the widespread wind-pollinated shrub Corylus avellana (L.) Betulaceae, hazel, and related the variation to geographic distribution and different spatial scales. READ MORE

  3. 18. Population Genetic Structure of Black Grouse (Tetrao tetrix) : From a Large to a Fine Scale Perspective

    Author : Carolina Corrales Duque; Jacob Höglund; Staffan Bensch; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; black grouse; control region; demographic expansion; kin selection; lek; microsatellites; non-invasive sampling; postglacial colonisation; philopatry; phylogeography; sex-biased dispersal; spatial genetics; subspecies; suture zone; refugia; Biology; Biologi; Systematics and phylogenetics; Systematik och fylogeni; Biologi med inriktning mot populationsbiologi; Biology with specialization in Population Biology;

    Abstract : Black grouse (Tetrao tetrix) is a bird species with a lek mating system found in the Palearctic boreal taiga. It is assumed that it has a continuous distribution along Scandinavia and Siberia, whereas in Central Europe it has declined during the last decades. READ MORE

  4. 19. Analysis of Turbulent Flows-From Chaos to Structure

    Author : Farideh Ghasempour; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Large Eddy Simulation; Vortex dynamics; Turbulence; Flow visualization; Vortex statistics; Coherent structure;

    Abstract : The development of models for several phenomena occurring in turbulent single and multi-phase flows requires improved description and quantification of turbulent structures. Phenomena such as, for example, mixing, coalescence and break-up, are often fast and nonlinear. READ MORE

  5. 20. Making Head or Tail of the Hippocampus : A Long-Axis Account of Episodic and Spatial Memory

    Author : Jonas Persson; Hedvig Söderlund; Tomas Furmark; Asaf Gilboa; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; hippocampus; fMRI; episodic memory; spatial memory; gender differences; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Abstract : While episodic and spatial memory both depend on the hippocampus, opposite gender differences in these functions suggest they are partly separate, with different neural underpinnings. The anterior and posterior hippocampus differ  in structure and whole-brain connectivity, and studies point to the posterior hippocampus being more involved in spatial memory while the anterior hippocampus’ role in episodic memory is less clear.
