Abstract : Von Willebrand factor (VWF) is synthesized and secreted by endothelial cells into the plasma as a series of multimers. VWF induces the formation of platelet plugs at sites of vascular injury and high shear stress. Biological activity is dependent on multimeric size, which is regulated in plasma by the VWF-cleaving protease ADAMTS13. READ MORE

  3. 3. Clinical and experimental studies of organ-specific autoimmune diseases : With special reference to Addison's disease and autoimmune hepatitis : by Gennet Gebre-Medhin

Abstract : Organ-specific autoimmunity constitutes a large health problem, where both the clinical management and our understanding of the pathogenetic mechanisms need to improve. Women with Addison's disease have abnormally low levels of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), its sulphate ester (DHEA-S) and androgens relative to age, and many patients complain of physical and mental fatigue and low stress tolerance. Abstract : The improvement of cardiovascular prosthetic materials, to reduce thrombus formation and inflammatory / immunological reactions, is a clinical challenge. Endothelial cell (EC) seeding using autologous cells to line the luminal surface of prosthetic materials has been suggested. READ MORE
