1. Analysis and speciation of organic phosphorus in environmental matrices : Development of methods to improve 31P NMR analysis
Abstract : Phosphorus (P) is an essential element for life on our planet. It is central in numerous biochemical processes in terrestrial and aqueous ecosystems including food production; and it is the primary growth-limiting nutrient in some of the world’s biomes. READ MORE

2. Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectrometry for Speciation Analysis : Development and Applications
Abstract : In analytical chemistry the main goal is normally to determine the identity and/or concentration of one or more species in a sample. The samples analyzed are often natural samples, containing numerous different species in a complex matrix and the choice of technique for multi-elemental detection is in general inductively coupled plasma spectrometry. 3. Studies of Tropospheric and Stratospheric Aerosol using Ion Beam Analysis
Abstract : Atmospheric aerosol particles are believed to have an impact on the radiative forcing of the earth's surface. The predicted results indicate a net cooling effect on the global climate, however there are few studies available to substantiate this and experimental data are needed. READ MORE

4. Instrumental and methodological developments for isotope dilution analysis of gaseous mercury species
Abstract : This thesis deals with instrumental and methodological developments for speciation analysis of gaseous mercury (Hg(g)), based on isotope dilution analysis (IDA). The studied species include Hg0, (CH3)2Hg, CH3HgX and HgX2 (where X symbolises a negatively charged counter ion in the form of a halide or hydroxyl ion). READ MORE

5. Liquid Membrane Techniques for Trace Metal Analysis and Speciation in Environmental and Biological Matrices
Abstract : In this thesis, liquid-membrane-based methods for the analysis of trace metal species in samples of environmental and biological origin were developed. By incorporating extracting reagents in the membrane liquid, trace metal ions were selectively separated from humic-rich natural waters and urine samples, prior to their determination using various instrumental techniques.
