11. Chemical composition and machinability of selected wood species from Mozambique
Abstract : The objectives of the current work were to carry out a survey on timber sector in Mozambique and to determine chemical, calorific and machinability features of selected species. Mozambican timber sector was described as dominated by selective harvesting practices on a few hardwood species out of 118 species growing in the forest with potential for industrial timber. 12. Small biotopes in agricultural landscapes: importance for vascular plants and effects of management
Abstract : As a consequence of agricultural intensification, large areas of non-crop habitat have been lost and farmland biodiversity has declined. Previous studies have shown that the extent of non-crop habitat influences farmland biodiversity, but the relative importance of different habitat types is less well known and the contribution of small incidental habitats to landscape-scale species richness is not fully understood. 13. Kinetic and thermodynamic modelling of ternary nanowire growth
Abstract : Among nanoscale structures of different shapes and dimensions nanowires are one of the most promising because of its truly unique properties different from their bulk counterparts. The energy quantization, perfect defect-free structure, and the possibility to grow them within the miscibility gap in combination with the benefits of bottom-up design and the possibility of integration on silicon substrates make nanowires ideal candidates for applications in optoelectronics, biotechnology and energy harvesting. 14. Ground beetle dynamics in intensively managed agricultural landscapes
Abstract : In this thesis I have focused on studying dynamics of ground beetle assemblages in intensively managed agricultural landscapes. By definition, the land cover of these landscapes is dominated by annually tilled farmland, comprising a range of different crop types, in the context of the southern Swedish province of Scania mostly winter wheat, spring barley, winter rapeseed, and sugar beets. 15. Prediction of Chloride Penetration into Saturated Concrete Multi-Species Approach
Abstract : The cost due to rehabilitation of corroded reinforced concrete structures is a worldwide matter of concern. The mechanisms of reaction-diffusion involved during the transport of chloride ions into saturated concrete, which are initiating the corrosion process, are therefore studied in this thesis. READ MORE
