  1. 11. Applicability of thermal energy storage in future district heating system - Design methodologies and performance evaluations

    Author : Yichi Zhang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; low-temperature district heating; demand-side management; low energy buildings; Thermal energy storage; district heating; variable renewable energy;

    Abstract : District heating (DH) enables efficient and economical utilization of energy resources to satisfy the heat and hot water demands in buildings and is, thereby, well-established in Northern European countries. To achieve the future renewable energy system, the current DH systems are proved to undergo transitions towards the future DH systems, with major characteristics including renewable-based heat sources, low temperature networks, lower heating demands and smart controls. 2. 12. The Non-Energy Benefits of Industrial Energy Efficiency : Investments and Measures

    Author : Therese Nehler; Patrik Thollander; Elin Svensson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Industrial energy efficiency; energy efficiency measures; energy efficiency investments; non-energy benefits; compressed air;

    Abstract : Improved industrial energy efficiency is viewed as an important means in the reduction of CO2 emissions and climate change mitigation. Various energy efficiency measures for improving energy efficiency exists, but even evaluated as cost-effective, there seems to be a difference between the energy efficiency measures that theoretically could be undertaken and which measures that actually are realised. Abstract : Residential and public buildings account for about 40% of the annual energy use in Europe. Many buildings are in urgent need of renovation, and reductions in energy demand in the built environment are of high importance in both Europe and Sweden. Building energy simulation (BES) tools are often used to predict building performance. READ MORE

  4. 14. Designing Energy-Sensitive Interactions : Conceptualising Energy from the Perspective of Electric Cars

    Author : Anders Lundström; Jan Gulliksen; Kristina Höök; Cristi Bogdan; Ron Wakkary; KTH; []

    Abstract : As technology is increasingly used in mobile settings, energy and battery management is becoming a part of everyday life. Many have experienced how quickly a battery can be depleted in a smartphone, laptop or electric cars, sometimes causing much distress. READ MORE

  5. 15. Energy planning for islands : Guiding island energy transition and decision-making

    Author : Andrew Barney; Heracles Polatidis; Stefan Ivanell; Magdalena Kuchler; Theocharis Tsoutsos; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Islands; Energy planning; Renewable Energy; Energy transition; Decarbonisation;

    Abstract : The importance and benefits of transitioning away from fossil fuel based energy systems is becoming ever clearer. The transition is especially crucial for geographic islands that typically have limited, or no, access to mainland energy networks. READ MORE
