16. Biofuels from Kraft Black Liquor : Pilot-Scale Gasification Development and Techno-Economic Evaluation of Industrially Relevant Biofuel Production Pathways
Abstract : Fuel combustion for transport was responsible for 24% of EU-28 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in 2016. Member states are expected to ensure that the share of renewable energy in the transport sector is at least 14% by 2030. Some countries, such as Sweden, have more ambitious targets. READ MORE

17. Multi-Disciplinary Conceptual Design of Future Jet Engine Systems
Abstract : This thesis describes various aspects of the development of a multi-disciplinary aero engine conceptual design tool, TERA2020 (Techno-economic, Environmental and Risk Assessment for 2020), based on an explicit algorithm that considers: engine performance, engine aerodynamic and mechanical design, aircraft design and performance, emissions prediction and environmental impact, engine and airframe noise, and production, maintenance and direct operating costs. As part of this research effort, a newly-derived semi-empirical NOx correlation for modern rich-burn single-annular combustors is proposed. 18. Small-Scale Decentralized Energy Systems : optimization and performance analysis
Abstract : Small-scale polygeneration energy systems, providing multiple energy services, such as heating, electricity, cooling, and clean water, using multiple energy sources (renewable and non-renewable) are considered an important component in the energy transition movement. Exploiting locally available energy sources and providing energy services close to the end users have potential environmental, economic, and societal benefits. READ MORE

19. Participating in Energy Systems through Everyday Designs – Exploring roles for households in a more sustainable energy future
Abstract : As households we participate in energy systems when, in the course of our everyday energy-reliant activities, we create a demand for energy and when we engage in energy-managing activities such as choosing an energy provider and deciding to support a specific source of energy. In this way, everyday life has an impact on the energy sector, and vice versa. READ MORE
