  1. 16. Static and Dynamic Correlation Effects in Atoms

    Author : Nils-Erik Dahlen; Matematisk fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; magnetic and optical properties; electrical; Condensed matter:electronic structure; relaxation; magnetic resonance; supraconductors; spectroscopy; Kondenserade materiens egenskaper:elektronstruktur; Atom- och molekylärfysik; Atomic and molecular physics; spektroskopi; magnetisk resonans; egenskaper elektriska; supraledare; magnetiska och optiska ; variational energies; double ionization; Electron correlation; laser-atom interaction; Fysicumarkivet A:2002:Dahlen; conserving approximations; Green s functions; GW-approximation;

    Abstract : The thesis considers the effects of electron correlation by studying the two opposite limits of atoms in the ground state and atoms in strong laser pulses. Computational methods and theoretical approaches differ significantly due to the different physical processes that are studied in these two cases. READ MORE

  2. 17. Element 115

    Author : Ulrika Forsberg; Kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; superheavy elements; element 115; new elements; alpha decay; X rays; gamma rays; nuclear structure; spontaneous fission; Fysicumarkivet A:2016:Forsberg; kärnstruktur; supertunga grundämnen; nya grundämnen; alfasönderfall; röntgenstrålning; gammastrålning; spontan fission; element 115; spektroskopi;

    Abstract : This thesis is devoted to detailed studies of element 115 decay chains using the highly efficient multi-coincidence alpha, electron, gamma and X-ray detector setup TASISpec at the gas-filled separator TASCA at GSI, Darmstadt, Germany. In a three-week long experiment thirty new decay chains assumed to stem from element 115 isotopes were observed together with the very first detections of gamma rays and potential X-rays from these nuclei. 3. 18. Molecular Interactions Studied by Electrophoretic and Diffusion NMR

    Author : Fredrik Hallberg; Peter Stilbs; István Furó; Gareth Morris; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; NMR; electrophoretic NMR; Ion pairing; complexation; association; diffusion; pulsed field gradient; Nafion; Spectroscopy; Spektroskopi;

    Abstract : Even though electrophoretic NMR (eNMR) experiments may provide unique chemical information and have been performed for three decades, the technique is still rarely applied, mainly because several experimental sources of artifacts have to be controlled to achieve accurate results. In this thesis, new experimental setups and protocols for accurate and precise eNMR experiments are presented. READ MORE

  4. 19. Anomalous Spectral Lines in Space and Laboratory Plasmas - Studies with HST and CRYRING

    Author : Henrik Hartman; Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; magnetic resonance; supraconductors; magnetic and optical properties; electrical; Condensed matter:electronic structure; strontium; titanium; CRYRING; iron; STIS; metastable levels; HST; RR Telesopii; Eta Carinae; line identification; fluorescence; forbidden lines; Atomic Spectroscopy; lifetime measurements; Astronomy; Astronomi; rymdvetenskap; cosmic chemistry; space research; spektroskopi; supraledare; magnetiska och optiska ; egenskaper elektriska; Kondenserade materiens egenskaper:elektronstruktur; magnetisk resonans; relaxation; spectroscopy; kosmisk kemi; Fysicumarkivet A:2003:Hartman;

    Abstract : Eta Carinae is one of the most massive and luminous stars in the Galaxy. A huge bipolar nebula and an equatorial disk give the object a characteristic shape. Close to the star there are gas clouds, which emit intriguing emission line spectra. READ MORE

  5. 20. Structure and spectroscopy of bio- and nano-materials from first-principles simulations

    Author : Weijie Hua; Yi LUO; Mauro Stener; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; soft x-ray spectroscopy; bio- and nano-materials; first-principles simulation; host-guest interaction; generalized energy-based fragmentation; Quantum chemistry; Kvantkemi; Spectroscopy; Spektroskopi; SRA - Molecular Bioscience; SRA - Molekylär biovetenskap;

    Abstract : This thesis is devoted to first-principles simulations of bio- and nano-materials,focusing on various soft x-ray spectra, ground-state energies and structures of isolated largemolecules, bulk materials, and small molecules in ambient solutions. K-edge near-edge x-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectra, x-ray emission spectra, andresonant inelastic x-ray scattering spectra of DNA duplexes have been studied by means oftheoretical calculations at the density functional theory level.
