  1. 6. Sphincter injuries and anal incontinence after vaginal delivery : a clinical and physiological study

    Author : Jan Zetterström; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Obstetric sphincter injury; anal sphincter defect; anal incontinence; perineal body; endoanal ultrasonography; anorectal manometry; pudendal nerve terminal motor latency;

    Abstract : Objective: To investigate the frequency and degree of anal incontinence after vaginal delivery in primiparous women, to determine risk factors for obstetric sphincter tears and to evaluate outcome of primary repair, to evaluate perineal body measurement (PBM) in patients with obstetric sphincter injuries, to study anal sphincter morphology and function before and after delivery, and to evaluate primiparous women who had sustained a sphincter tear or developed anal incontinence after delivery. Methods: Questionnaires regarding anal incontinence before pregnancy, at five and nine months after delivery were used. READ MORE

  2. 7. Urinary incontinence in middle-aged women - a population-based study on prevalence, risk factors and the role of the urethra

    Author : Pia Teleman; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reproduktion; sexualitet; gynaecology; andrology; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; gynekologi; andrologi; Obstetrics; stress incontinence; urodynamic investigation; overactive bladder; population study; urethral sphincter; urethra; urinary incontinence; middle-aged women;

    Abstract : Urinary incontinence classification is based on symptomatology, presuming that each symptom originates in a separate pathophysiology and demands its unique therapy. Women often present a mixture of symptoms inconsistent with urodynamic diagnosis, especially regarding urgency. READ MORE

  3. 8. ULTRASOUND STUDIES ON PELVIC FLOOR PHYSIOLOGY AND OBSTETRIC PERINEAL TEARS

    Author : Ann-Kristin Örnö; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; reproduction; sexuality; Obstetrik; andrology; bladder neck descent; rectoanal inhibitory reflex; rectal sensation; Hirschsprung´s disease; Obstetrics; gynaecology; Valsalva manoeuvre; perineal tears; Pelvic floor; anal sphincter; gynekologi; andrologi; reproduktion; sexualitet;

    Abstract : Repair of obstetric perineal tears is one of the most frequent procedures in surgical practice. Despite repair such tears may result in anal and urinary incontinence and prolapses of the pelvic floor, problems in need of surgical repair later in life. READ MORE

  4. 9. Anatomical and physiological aspects of anorectal dysfunction

    Author : Geert Morren; Anders Mellgren; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Anal canal; Anal-sphincter repair; Audit; Magnetic resonance imaging; Magnetic stimulation; Latency; Pelvic floor; Sacral roots; MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Objective: To analyse the results of anal-sphincter repair; to examine the feasibility of motor latency measurements of the anal sphincter after magnetic sacral stimulation in healthy subjects, patients with a spinal cord injury and patients with faecal incontinence, using a new recording technique; to study, in the same 3 groups, the effects ofphasic magnetic sacral root stimulation on the anal sphincter and rectum; to describe normal, undisturbed anatomy of the anal canal and perianal structures in both men and nulliparous women using high-resolution phased array magnetic resonance imaging; to study pelvic floor movements in healthy volunteers of both sexes using a new instrument.Methods: Latencies were recorded with an intraanal, bipolar sponge electrode and an intrarectal ground electrode. 5. 10. The prostanoid FP receptor and uveoscleral outflow : A study of FP receptor expression and functions in the eye

    Author : Anette Ocklind; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Prostanoid FP receptor; tissue distribution; ciliary muscle; iris sphincter muscle; extracellularmatrix; actin; prostaglandin F2a; latanoprost; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Pathology; patologi;

    Abstract : Prostaglandin F2α is a prostanoid FP receptor agonist which acts as an intraocular pressure-lowering agent by increasing the uveoscleral outflow of aqueous humour through the ciliary muscle. The aim of this, thesis was to investigate possible mechanisms of the increased uveoscleral outflow induced by prostaglandin F2α and its analogue latanoprost acid. READ MORE
