  1. 1. First-principles theory of electrically-induced spin and orbital magnetization

    Author : Leandro Salemi; Peter M. Oppeneer; Yuriy Mokrousov; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Spin-orbit torques (SOTs) have emerged recently as practical tools to control the magnetization in spintronic devices, but it is debated what the underlying fundamental processes are that enable fast and energy-efficient magnetization switching.In this thesis, we investigate theoretically possible means of controlling magnetization in magnetic materials and heterostructures. Abstract : The Standard Model of Elementary Particle Physics (SM) is the present theoryfor the elementary particles and their interactions and is a well-established theorywithin the physics community. The SM is a combination of Quantum Chromodynamics(QCD) and the Glashow{Weinberg{Salam (GWS) electroweak model. READ MORE

  3. 3. Effects of the Spin-Orbit Interaction on Transport and Optical Properties of III-V Semiconductor Quantum Wells

    Author : Vladimir Froltsov; Matematisk fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; spin-orbit interaction; quantum well; III-V; Raman scattering; magnetoresistance; weak localization; spin distribution; magnetic field; Fysik; Physics; Fysicumarkivet A:2000:Froltsov; Halvledarfysik; Semiconductory physics; semiconductor;

    Abstract : Effects of the intrinsic electron spin-orbit interaction on transport and optical properties of III-V semiconductor quantum wells have been studied theoretically. It is shown that due to crystal anisotropy of this interaction, the weak localization magnetoresistance in a magnetic field parallel to interfaces is very sensitive to the epitaxy growth direction and also to the orientation of the magnetic field with respect to the crystal axes. 4. 4. Spin Transport in Two-Dimensional Material Heterostructures

    Author : André Dankert; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Black phosphorous; Topological insulator; h-BN; Silicon; Transistor; Spintronic; MoS2; Graphene; 2D materials; Spin polarized tunnelling; Schottky barrier;

    Abstract : Spintronics is considered as an alternative for information processing beyond the charge based technology. The spintronic device performance depend on the spin relaxation mechanisms in the channel material. Si and graphene are interesting for their long spin coherence lengths and ideal for spin transport channels. READ MORE

  5. 5. Properties of baryons in the chiral quark model

    Author : Tommy Ohlsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chiral quark model; baryons; configuration mixing; magnetic moments; Coleman-Glashow sum-rule; spin polarizations; weak form factors; semilepronic decays; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis, several properties of baryons are studied using the chiral quark model. The chiral quark model is a theory which can be used to describe low energy phenomena of baryons. In Paper 1, the chiral quark model is studied using wave functions with configuration mixing.
