  1. 6. Electron Transport in Nanowire Quantum Devices

    Author : Henrik Nilsson; Fasta tillståndets fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Superconductivity; Spin-orbit coupling; the Kondo effect; the Zeeman effect; Quantum dots; Nanowire memories; Nanowire transistors; InSb; InAs; Nanowires; Electron transport; Andreev reflections; Nanowire RF-SET; Noise in nanowires;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on electron transport in semiconductor InAs/InP and InSb nanowire quantum devices. However, first the temperature dependence of classical charge transport in InSb nanowire field-effect transistors, FETs, is characterized, using InAs nanowire FETs as a reference. READ MORE

  2. 7. Ultrafast Photo-induced Reaction Dynamics of Small Molecules

    Author : Malin Kadi; Jan Davidsson; Eva Åkesson; Sören Keiding; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physical chemistry; pump-probe spectroscopy; reaction dynamics; photodissociation; aryl halides; spin-orbit coupling; ab initio calculations; molecular dynamics; vibrational wavepackets; Fysikalisk kemi; Physical chemistry; Fysikalisk kemi;

    Abstract : The main focus of this thesis is the investigation of the dissociation dynamics of aryl halides using femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy. In the monohalogenated aryl halides, iodo-, bromo- and chlorobenzene, the rate of dissociation following excitation at 266 nm in the gas phase increased with increasing mass of the halogen atom. 3. 8. Interaction and disorder in helical conductors

    Author : Anders Ström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; physics; helical conductors; topological insulators; Anderson localization; condensed matter;

    Abstract : Different effects from electron-electron interactions and disorder in helical and quasi-helical conductors are studied using bosonisation and renormalisation group methods. The combined effects of Rashba spin-orbit interaction and magnetic Kondo-type impurities in the helical edge liquids of quantum spin Hall insulators, are investigated. READ MORE

  4. 9. Role of charge and spin fluctuations and their interplay in solids : A Green’s function approach

    Author : Tor Sjöstrand; Matematisk fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Green’s function; correlations; collective excitations; screened interaction; electric polarization; orbital and spin magnetization; magnon-phonon interaction; Fierz ambiguity; time-dependent exchange-correlation potential;

    Abstract : Due to the large number of electrons, solid state physics boils down to many-body approximations in which only selected types of collective excitations are taken into account, guided by the emergent properties of the material under study. In this thesis, the collective excitations of primary interest are electronic charge and spin fluctuations(plasmons and magnons) and nuclear charge fluctuations (phonons). READ MORE

  5. 10. Experimental and theoretical studies of some transition metal halides

    Author : Raimo Koivisto; John Brown; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis comprises both experimental and theoretical studies on transition metal (TM) containing molecules and then mainly on CrF and CrCl. Both the experimental and theoretical parts have been aimed at a depend understanding of the electronic structure. READ MORE
