6. Electron Transport in Nanowire Quantum Devices
Abstract : This thesis focuses on electron transport in semiconductor InAs/InP and InSb nanowire quantum devices. However, first the temperature dependence of classical charge transport in InSb nanowire field-effect transistors, FETs, is characterized, using InAs nanowire FETs as a reference. READ MORE

7. Ultrafast Photo-induced Reaction Dynamics of Small Molecules
Abstract : The main focus of this thesis is the investigation of the dissociation dynamics of aryl halides using femtosecond pump-probe spectroscopy. In the monohalogenated aryl halides, iodo-, bromo- and chlorobenzene, the rate of dissociation following excitation at 266 nm in the gas phase increased with increasing mass of the halogen atom. 8. Interaction and disorder in helical conductors
Abstract : Different effects from electron-electron interactions and disorder in helical and quasi-helical conductors are studied using bosonisation and renormalisation group methods. The combined effects of Rashba spin-orbit interaction and magnetic Kondo-type impurities in the helical edge liquids of quantum spin Hall insulators, are investigated. READ MORE

9. Role of charge and spin fluctuations and their interplay in solids : A Green’s function approach
Abstract : Due to the large number of electrons, solid state physics boils down to many-body approximations in which only selected types of collective excitations are taken into account, guided by the emergent properties of the material under study. In this thesis, the collective excitations of primary interest are electronic charge and spin fluctuations(plasmons and magnons) and nuclear charge fluctuations (phonons). READ MORE

10. Experimental and theoretical studies of some transition metal halides
Abstract : This thesis comprises both experimental and theoretical studies on transition metal (TM) containing molecules and then mainly on CrF and CrCl. Both the experimental and theoretical parts have been aimed at a depend understanding of the electronic structure. READ MORE
