1. The drive for change : putting the means and ends of sport at stake in the organizing of Swedish voluntary sport
Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to create knowledge on processes of change in the contemporary organizing of Swedish voluntary sport and the systems of meaning at work in these processes. The thesis proceeds from the assumption that the contemporary public sport policy climate is characterized by a pressure on organized sport to change in order for sport to better serve as an implementer of non-sport goals. 2. System analysis of kitesurfing : Understanding performance and injury risk for on-water board sports
Abstract : Board sports are examples of sports where the interaction of the task, environment and the athlete are essential. As for other sports, there are injuries and other issues associated with these sports, which affect performance and that can be avoided by proper preparation and well- designed equipment. READ MORE

3. Lateral epicondylitis : intramuscular blood flow, pressure and metabolism in the ECRB muscle
Abstract : Lateral epicondylitis is classified as an overuse injury and the main symptom is pain from the lateral side of the elbow. There is general agreement that the extensor carpi radialis brevis (ECRB) muscle and its proximal tendon play a central role in the development of lateral epicondylitis. However, the pathophysiology is to a large extent unclear. READ MORE

4. Influences of in vivo and in vitro loading on the proteoglycan synthesis of articular cartilage chondrocytes
Abstract : In this study, the biosynthesis of proteoglycans (PGs) was examined in articular cartilage of canine hip joint after long-distance running experiment and in bovine chondrocyte cultures during in vitro loading with hydrostatic pressure. In addition, new assays were developed for more sensitive quantitation of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) and PGs. READ MORE

5. Roller skis' rolling resistance and grip characteristics : influences on physiological and performance measures in cross-country skiers
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to investigate roller ski characteristics; classical and freestyle roller skis’ rolling resistance coefficients (μR) and classical style roller skis’ static friction coefficients (μS), and to study the influence of different μR and μS on cross-country skiers’ performance and both physiological and biomechanical indices. The aim was also to study differences in skiing economy and efficiency between recreational skiers, female and male junior and senior elite cross-country skiers. READ MORE
