1. Detection and outcome of mild traumatic brain injury in patients and sportsmen : persisting symptoms, disabilities and life satisfaction in relation to S-100B, NSE and cortisol
Abstract : Traumatic brain injuries are common (hospitalization incidence: 250-300 per 100.000 inhabitants/year) and a great majority of these injuries (80-85%) are classified as mild traumatic brain injury (MTBI/concussion). 2. Roller skis' rolling resistance and grip characteristics : influences on physiological and performance measures in cross-country skiers
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to investigate roller ski characteristics; classical and freestyle roller skis’ rolling resistance coefficients (μR) and classical style roller skis’ static friction coefficients (μS), and to study the influence of different μR and μS on cross-country skiers’ performance and both physiological and biomechanical indices. 3. Body size and physical activity : epidemiological studies on children and young adults
Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to increase the knowledge about different aspects of body size and physical activity among Swedish children and young adults. Specific aims were: (i) to investigate how BMI-distributions (BMI=Body Mass Index) have changed among Swedish children over a 12 year period, (ii) to study effects of pre- and postnatal growth on body size and body composition in adolescence, (iii) to study associations between parents and children s physical activity, and (iv) to investigate genetic contributions to physical activity behavior. 4. Rehabilitation after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction using patellar tendon or hamstring grafts : open and closed kinetic chain exercises
Abstract : Aim: The overall aim of this thesis was to improve the knowledge of appropriate exercises, the influence of preoperative factors for good clinical outcome as well as the patient s experience of the rehabilitation after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction with patellar tendon or hamstring graft.
