  1. 1. Single-crystal Mo/V superlattices : growth, structure, and hydrogen uptake

    Author : Jens Birch; Jan-Erik Sundgren; Bruce M Clemens; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Fundamental studies concerning the growth, structural characterization and hydrogen uptake of single-crystal (00 l )-oriented Mo/V superlattices have been performed. The superlattices were grown by dual-target magnetron sputtering in pure Ar-atmosphere < 6·10-3 Torr on (001)-oriented MgO substrates. READ MORE

  2. 2. Electrochromism in Nickel-based Oxides : Coloration Mechanisms and Optimization of Sputter-deposited Thin Films

    Author : Esteban Damián Avendaño Soto; Gunnar Niklasson; Andris Azens; Claes-Göran Granqvist; Ulf Helmersson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Nickel based Oxide; Electrochromism; Thin Films; Sputtering; Coloration mechanism; Fysik; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Electrochromic properties of sputter-deposited nickel-based oxide films have been studied with a two-fold goal. From a practical point of view, the optical switching performance has been improved by optimizing the deposition conditions and film stoichiometry with respect to oxygen and hydrogen, and further by adding Mg, Al, Si, Zr, Nb or Ta to the films. 3. 3. Low-friction and wear-resistant carbon nitride coatings for bearing components grown by magnetron sputtering

    Author : Konstantinos Bakoglidis; Grzegorz Greczynski; Lars Hultman; Susann Schmidt; Witold Gulbinski; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Carbon nitride; magnetron sputtering; physical vapor deposition; coatings; bearings; rolling contact fatigue; adhesion; friction; wear; transmission electron microscopy; scanning electron microscopy; x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy; coatings tribology; nanotribology;

    Abstract : The scope of this thesis is the investigation of magnetron sputtered carbon nitride coatings suitable for roller bearing components. The research field of tribology of bearings focuses on minimizing friction between components by improving the lubricants. READ MORE

  4. 4. Silicon Nitride Based Coatings Grown by Reactive Magnetron Sputtering

    Author : Tuomas Hänninen; Hans Högberg; Susann Schmidt; Lars Hultman; Arutiun P. Ehiasarian; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Silicon nitride and silicon nitride-based ceramics have several favorable material properties, such as high hardness and good wear resistance, which makes them important materials for the coating industry. This thesis focuses the synthesis of silicon nitride, silicon oxynitride, and silicon carbonitride thin films by reactive magnetron sputtering. READ MORE

  5. 5. Reactive Sputtering of Complex Multi-component Nitride Thin Films

    Author : Kristina von Fieant; Erik Lewin; Ulf Jansson; Jean-Francois Pierson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The ever-increasing demand on improvement of protective nitride thin films has led to an expansion of the research field into multi-element based materials. The work in this thesis has focused on exploring new complex, multi-component nitride thin films based on three different material systems: Al-Ge-N, Hf-Nb-Ti-V-Zr-N and Al-Cr-Nb-Y-Zr-N. READ MORE
